I hope this would split the vote among magas and republicans and the dems would be a shoe in. Sadly, I’ve lost a lot of faith in the dems and their ability to effectively fight for the people. Maybe we need even more parties?

Oh, can “aliens” start political parties in the USA?

Imma start a “British Colony” party over there; anyone want to join me? MAABCA.

Maybe that’s the only way US will ever get a third party. I’m not an American but I do think american politics system would be significantly stronger even with a minority 3rd party. Can you imagine how powerful US would be with a diverse parlament that has true competition of ideas not just partisan voting? That’s true “checks and balances”.

We don’t need more false choice though. This would be a another bourgeois party. The cards might be shuffled a bit and the rhetoric might change but it’d still be playing the same game with the same cards. It’s still a game of “choose your favorite faction of rich people” despite the tweaks in messaging. There will still be an assurance of “nothing will fundamentally change” to the owners and donors.

The entire Democrat demographic hates him for kissing Trumps ass.

The entire Trump demogaphic hates him for going against Trump.

And the Republican demographic have never liked him as far as I’m aware.

So… who are his voters? Probably just a convenient way to shuffle money around.

At least give it a cool name like The (John) Galt Party or something so it has a better change of splitting the right. I guess the nazi party was already taken?

He isn’t trying to split the right, he actually thinks he can win because he’s a fucking narcissist. So they will siphon votes from Democrats by pretending to be pro-Gaza and all of the kids who refuse to read a fucking book will buy it and vote for them.

he’s just so bad with names. Surprised he didn’t call it the X Party. wouldn’t that have been more “cool”? surprised he didn’t ask Grok to come up with party names, I mean hell I use chatgpt to come up with names for videogame characters and it works well.

This is going to fizzle out when he inevitably gets distracted by something else.

Even opening up a poll on X to see what his users think about the idea…

Presumably the other headline that read ‘50% of voters’ were in favour of this party, should have read ‘50% of X users who voted in the poll (a potentially large proportion of which were bots owned and controlled ultimately by Elon Musk) were in favour of this party’

    1. US (and in fact all ‘Western’) media is as bent as anything in the former Soviet Union.

    2. America certainly is in the hypernormalisation phase. I’m not sure how far behind the UK (and other Western nations media) is because I really don’t engage in the media here. But any Murdoch owned media (like Fox in the US) is at the very least poisonous to open and fair democracy, and egalitarian society.

The funniest thing about stuff like this is that there are already a hundred political parties in the US. Every time someone says “we need a third party,” it reminds me of that xkcd comic about standards and protocols.

When people say that they want a third part I doubt they mean it literally, as in they believe there are literally only two parties, but rather I suspect they mean that they want a third party which is large and influencial.

Which is obviously not the case in the US.

Do you think there’s any chance that Musk can break whatever is formally boxing out other parties? It seems like just by being who he is right now in history, he could break things.

We need to hope he breaks the current norm in a way that doesn’t put him in power, and opens things up for proper multi-party elections in the future. That’s a lot to hope for though, I guess.

When I think about this, I can imagine Musk fans telling tales of his 4D chess moves and how his plan all along has been to overhaul and improve elections. Or some other bullshit.

I’ll just point out the risk of what I’ll call “Joe Roganing” here. Elon pretends he hates both parties while there’s no election coming up. Then when the election arrives he “makes up his mind” and endorses Republicans. This allows him to 1) attract people fed up with both parties just to hand them to Republicans, and 2) have a credible that that forces Republicans to do his bidding.

I’m a secret leftist amongst a bunch of low information MAGA voters (the ones that voted for Trump more because they’re stupid and easily duped than being giant racists) in a few different circles. All they know is I own guns and answer “oh fuck no” when asked if I’m a liberal, so they assume I’m a non-MAGA conservative*. Hehehe.

Without exception, they adore Elno. They don’t realize it but they’re prosperity gospel types (because stupid), so they assume he must be a good and intelligent guy, otherwise Jebus wouldn’t have made him successful.

*Side note: I have one all hot and bothered about seizing the means of production, just using different terms.

on one hand, harder to defeat them in a vote because they’d be way more visibly in touch with the incel crackhead core of their voting block. on the other, dude is at least environmentally concerned enough to try avoiding climate and technology crisis as long as the solution benefits/involves him. which is a low fucking bar but still an improvement.
