NGL I’d happily add that shirt to my schlocky conservative clothes, but only if it has a big goofy American flag on the back. I’ve got one that says “Alcohol, Tabaco, and Firearms should be a convenience store not a government agency” which I adore because it is exactly the stereotype of that type of shirt.

This isn’t even satire. This describes my brother in law in Georgia almost perfectly.

I apparently had to get my MMR updated recently for work. The nurse asked if there was anything else I needed. I asked for shingles and Lyme. Apparently not free for me. I asked about eligible patients who have refused and if I could just have their vaccine that is already paid for but refused. No, I just have to suffer through shingles until I am 65 years old for… reasons.

There has been some research showing a correlation between shingles and dementia.

You should probably get it even if it costs you money.

I just checked and the Lyme vaccine was discontinued all the way back in 2002. There currently isn’t one approved for humans. You have to sneak into a veterinary clinic and steal the dog one. Why do I feel compelled to lick my testicles? Oh, wait, I know; that has nothing to do with the dog vaccine.

Yes, the original was canceled thanks to anti-vax fears. However there is a new one that has been in testing for a couple years now. I’ve heard you can get the animal one sometimes.

IIRC, shingles is the chicken pox virus (which is in the herpes family). Chicken pox goes dormant in the nerve cells. As people age, the immune system weakens, and the virus can come out of dormancy from the nerve cells, causing intense pain. This can occur more than once, like fever blisters or genital herpes. The associated rash is usually on the trunk or sometimes limbs. It has a branching form that follows the nerves under the skin. Rarely life threatening but super fucking painful.

Dude, public transport can be terrifying, but it depends. I agree with all the other points. It can be scary being trapped in a moving box when someone starts getting hostile. That was experience on busses about 1/10 times? I’m not sure, but it did freak me out. Usually, the worst part was just getting talked at even though I was wearing headphones.

We definitely need more public transportation, though.

Jesus - where do you live that 1 out of every 10 times you take mass transit, it’s a harrowing affair?

The thousands of times I’ve taken trains and subways in NYC, I’ve seen some weird people, but never any scary ones, and the ny subway seems to have the worst reputation too.

Socal. It depends on the length of the trip and the area. Our public transport sucks. If it was a short bus trip to college, no problems. EVERYTIME I went to the beach something happened. I have no idea why.

I take public transit every day and I’ve never experienced anything that could be described as terrifying. I think you’re full of shit.

I don’t want to think about it too much. I’ll keep it quick:

Random person dying on the back of the bus. Someone threatening the bus driver over a lack of bus fair (too the point of fighting the bus driver with hands). Someone fighting someone for a seat, and they miss a punch and hit an old lady. I think you’re full of shit. Public transportation is highly contextual. I want more, and I want it to be safe. I want it to be free to people regardless of background. Again, I’m talking socal.

My worst one was getting chased down and then getting mugged at the bus stop. The second worst was keeping someone from attacking my partner while I tried to talk them down. I know it’s anecdotal, that’s why I said “1/10, but I’m not sure.” That was my main form of transportation for about 5 years. I believe it was called an “M-pass,”.

I try not to think about it because when people do those things, I want to forgive them. It fucking hurts. We need more public transportation, but I won’t romanticize it. We need to make it safer for possible victims, just like what we need to do with Uber and Lyft.

I don’t think the projection arguement necessarily has to apply to everyone. I think some people can just be evil and it doesn’t have to be the result of some kind of emotional defence mechanism.

No one is evil in their own story. If you want to understand someone, you have to make it make sense…There might be mental gymnastics involved, there might be hypocrisy, there might be incredible stupidity, but there’s always some angle where what they did was justified somehow

Also, Trump has been flirting with men lately as his mind fails him… Just saying

Nothing. Your opinion doesn’t matter. Neither does mine. Therefore leave people the fuck alone and met them live their lives because they’re not bothering you.
