We shouldn’t judge people for doing things to themselves that makes them happy. If someone wants Botox who are you to judge.

People with such a disphoria most likely won’t be happy after such a dangerous injection of a neurotoxin. Probably even the opposite and leading to more and more “corrections”. yet the actual self will never align with the self one imagines one has to be. A downward spiral OR maybe, if lucky, a botched experiment never to be repeated.

So, all I, personally, can see in those people is the sadness or even true despair. Surely not beauty. Not in the slightest. At best I see beauty in their public display of insecurity or weakness.

And besides that: people form prejudgment all the time about everything, and it’s a great evolutionarily trait that gave us an edge up to this day. Being able to deduct something based on the thinnest of evidence. And further strengthening or weakening this judgment by gathering additional evidence over time. This is NOT an inherently bad thing by itself. It becomes a bad thing if people stick to their initial prejudgment and could never be taught better. May it be out of ignorance, apathy or sheer stupidity. Then prejudice is the actual bad thing that this word always seem to connotate.

They can do whatever the hell they want, but so can I. And what I want to do is point and laugh.

exactly, it’s bodily autonomy at the end of the day

hot take, but bodily autonomy also includes things you (or i) disapprove of!

It’s one thing to try and be beautiful, say by putting on makeup. It’s another entirely to worship beauty so much that you inject a deadly neurotoxin into your face (often with disastrous results) for it. And this is often done by actors, literally people paid in large part for their existing beauty.

It making them happy (which I doubt) doesn’t mean it’s safe, and doesn’t mean that they have good values.

Of all the stuff people do for cosmetic reasons, I think I will never get poisoning your face muscles with a deadly neurotoxin.

It’s sad to see young and old women like this. Being natural yourself worth more.\

So 2/2 comments on this post so far are judging women for getting Botox. I wonder how many more men are going to weigh in on this.

Men do the same thing for men using steroids?

You’re acting like “they want to look good for themselves” only applies to women by calling out men.

and yet the post making fun of deadbeat dads has all sorts of comments saying it’s an unfair stereotype and accusing the person making it of being a stuck up manhater 🙃

bruh the only people I ever see randomly accusing women of getting cosmetic surgery are other women.

That may be true in your personal experience but just look at the comments in question. The way they’re worded just screams man. The sort of judgemental comment where they think they’re being supportive or some shit but just come off condescending, completely ignoring their male privilege.

Yeah you have a point, women are more “I bet she got plastic surgery” whereas men are more “She looked better without plastic surgery”.

To me, it’s the pervasive assumption that people get surgery for the people looking at them. That and they really don’t care that chuds on the internet wish for them to be “natural.”

Exactly. They do it for themselves. If you’re not going to be supportive of their decisions, don’t say anything at all. Lemmy is awesome, for the most part, but it leans heavily male and is often not a terribly welcoming place for women. I’ve given up trying to explain these things in a tone that won’t get downvoted, so I’m just blunt instead and accept the downvotes.

Be like the lady in the meme. Say what you want bc you want to say it. Never think about downvotes. Mostly bc they don’t matter but more importantly, you’ve seen what those kinds of people upvote.

Eh. Most often you’ll notice bad work with fillers and other surgeries. “Botox” is code for “women getting work done that I as a man on the internet don’t like.” (Not that you’re doing that)
