A series of events in the past few weeks has undercut what little power Johnson ever had among his fellow Republicans in the House. GOP representatives – the group that he theoretically leads – are so angry that they publicly call him names. Republicans are using parliamentary procedures to get votes on bills that Johnson doesn’t want to bring to the floor.
Incumbents panicking over the potential to lose their seats, in a Democratic landslide, are blaming Johnson for their problems. He has to make promises he must know he can’t keep to get bills passed. And Donald Trump is doing nothing to help Johnson in his time of need.
I have a feeling his successor will be even worse.
Exactly, Mike Johnson is awful, but they’ll just elect another idiot. Republicans have lost it completely, and are incapable of decency.
Worse or better on policy, I think the next speaker won’t publicly fellate Trump nearly as much, which is notable.
On the bright side, he and his son can finally be together the way they’ve always wanted.
Is it time to set up a lettuce?
🎶There’s no sunshine til he’s gone
Remember when it took the Pedo Party FIFTEEEN FUCKING TRIES to elect Kevin McCarthy speaker, only to oust him like 10 months later?
These bumbling chucklefucks simply cannot govern.
Of course they are. That’s how calendars work.
Good. Fuck that guy. Hopefully he can retire to spend more time with his family.
For example, watching his son jerk off or whatever.
Oh are those the gay porn accountability duo?
Another dog and pony show. He will be well compensated.
Numbered days? I don’t know anything about that.
-Mike Johnson, of fed gov’t leadership
That’s how calendars work. Tomorrow’s the 16th mikathan
A couple of hours after Trump laughed when asked about it and said, "yeah, he’s a loser. Everyone hates him.
Maybe Trump’s plan is to eject Johnson, get Republicans in the House to elect him to be Speaker, hold both positions at the same time (because who’s gonna tell him he can’t? His handpicked Supreme Court?), then simply refuse to acknowledge the results of the election if it goes South for him.
Fuck it, does the constitution say you have to be a different person from the vice president? Might as well go for the trifecta
Please someone give me a reason he can’t nominate himself to the Supreme Court if a seat is vacant.
There’s technically no such thing as a “vacant” seat. The constitution dictates a Supreme Court and justices but not how many. They could nominate and seat twenty more justices tomorrow.
I mean it would be fucking awful but somehow it would be wonderfully true to the sentiment history rhymes, as Hitler combined the chancellor position and the presidency in Germany together and was from then on the Führer.
I feel like Huey P. Long did something very similar to this. We’ll see how it all plays out for the president.
Hopefully it ends the same way. Soon.
With two generations of his family members coming in after and stealing everything that isn’t nailed down?
There’s precedent that says nobody can hold two elected offices at the same time. Does that apply to the speakrship?
Didn’t the USSC say that the president isn’t an office though? I want whatever drugs they on
Precedent? What’s that? I think Donald John Trump just nominated himself to the Supreme Court and the Senate is slated to approve it.
What’s that you say? They can’t do that? Well Chief Justice Trump says it’s constitutional.
Edit: On a serious note, Speaker is not an elected position. IIRC it’s all made up and the House can choose however they want, including games of chance.
It is literally elected but ok
It’s chosen by the members of the house, however they see fit. Majority vote by members is just how they chose to do it:
“Clause 5 Impeachment The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.”
It is not an election by the people
I’m still not convinced. I’m also accustomed to being wrong, but we’ll see.
And Donald Trump is doing nothing to help Johnson in his time of need.
Nor should he. Mike knew what he was doing when he signed up to be Drowsy Don’s little bitch, he should be treated as the little bitch he is. Don’t be like Mike.
Donald TrumpMike Johnson’s days are number!I gotta once again ask every pundit who is convinced the Speaker is on his way out… who did the GOP plan to replace him with? Like, the entire appeal of Johnson is that he’s a mediocre compromise who offends nobody in the Republican House Caucus. He never had much power to begin with, which is why the House legislative output in 2025 has been relatively lackluster.
At the same time, getting votes on bills in the House that are unlikely to survive the floor and will inevitably fail (or simply be ignored) in the Senate isn’t a problem for Johnson. The biggest benefit of being Speaker - for Johnson anyway - is the pay and benefits, as he is one of the poorest House Speakers in history.
Forbes estimates that Mike Johnson’s net worth is in the ballpark of $350,000, making him the least wealthy speaker of the century (along with being the least experienced). For comparison, Johnson’s predecessor Kevin McCarthy owned an investment portfolio in the six figures and former speaker Paul Ryan had assets in the millions. On the left, Nancy Pelosi’s net worth has been pegged at nearly $250 million, eclipsing them all.
Johnson’s congressional salary is $174,000.
Johnson got a roughly $50,000 raise to be Speaker of the House, earning $223,000 per year.
I’m sure I’m not the first person to remark upon Johnson being one of the dumbest men to hold the job. Even former gym coach and child sex predator Denny Hastert figured out how to make a few million under the table during his tenure.
I just don’t see any strong reason for as useful an idiot as Johnson to leave his post, unless someone who can make better use of the position can step up. In a legislature that’s increasingly irrelevant to the running of the federal government, there’s very little appetite for a Strong Speaker and very little profit in failing to negotiate changes to legislation on your party’s behalf.
Punditry pays well and Cox Media Group seems to own a lot of outlets.
Trump has always been somehow untouchable, but the same could never be said about Johnson, and he makes a great fall guy for everyone’s ire at Trump.
But the key here is, no one in congress on either side really wants Johnson to be in line for the presidency should Trump’s health issues, or pedophillia, finally catch up to him. Especially with the couch fucker around and not being popular except with Nazis.
I don’t think the problem with Johnson is untouchable. I just think he’s in the role because there’s nobody better to replace him with.
Also, I just don’t think “Trump dying in office” is a serious part of anyone’s math.
Thr cap of the pen I chew on hasn’t been the speaker of the house. It’s open to the idea if anyone is interested.
It certainly would be more qualified than this asshole.
This party really operates like a legion of saturday morning cartoon villains who are all at the table, bickering at who is at fault for the crumbling reach that they had.
