The thing with these fashion trends is that there’s always a percentage of people that never move on. I’m sure that these aliens can find the guys they’re looking for somewhere.

That guy works in our building. He’s got the beard, rolled up trouser legs to show pleather boots, tattoos and the hat, the whole nine yards. Btw, he’s vegan

Fuck. I’m catching strays over here.

I briefly had a manbun in 2011 before they were a huge thing (I was like 20 or so and just wanted to grow my hair out, give me a break), I’ve had a curled handlebar mustache for shits and giggles, and I now use an Arch based OS (CachyOS btw).

Fuck CrossFit and fuck endurance sports, I was a sprinter swimmer until it injured my shoulders. I did have a brief vegan phase though. I still eat some of those recipes, but it’s not a full time thing.

Hmmm let’s see what else might check some boxes. I hate coffee, so not that.

Ah shit. Today is 3 years since I quit drinking, but I still drink (non alcoholic) IPAs. That’s a massive check…

I’m currently wearing a plaid flannel. I have a full beard at the moment though, not just a stache.

Hmmm. Yea I’m at least part hipster. Hopefully not more than 50%

I also have one and it’s great! Although I did buy it because a man so hipster that he literally listened to vinyl records at his desk recommended it. Tbf, he was spot on with many recommends

I remember when s guy tried to sue a news outlet for using his picture without permission for an article about how hipsters all look the same…and then it turned out that it wasn’t a picture of him

Funny story, though I do question the study they referred to, because there’s different flavours of counter-culture that look pretty different from each other. Hipster is one, but there’s also goth, emo, trench coat aesthetic, people who chase outdated trends, punk, metal, those who don’t dress up any differently if they are going out or staying in, otaku (like the ones that wear clothes with hentai on them, I wouldn’t call cosplaying a counter culture so much as a costume hobby unless cosplay wear is their default)…

All of those looks are very different from each other while not wanting to follow the main culture’s trends and flaunting its definition of beauty.

And tbh, I’m not sure I’d even call hipsters a counter-culture. There was a desire to rebel, but looking at the aesthetic, I can’t tell what they were really trying to rebel against. Looking sloppy? Business casual? Maybe it’s because the aesthetic has been absorbed into the culture itself or maybe it was an advertiser-led “rebellion” in the first place? Or trying to be ahead of the curve means eventually the mainstream “catches up” and the look just looks normal now?

Also, thinking about it more, I wonder if the hilariously apt story was genuine or if someone there realized how they could really push their story by inventing an angry reader to prove their point.

I wish. Everyone’s doing those little mustaches now. We’ve stumbled backwards from the peak fashion of the Lumberjack Sheek 1970s to the Saddam Lip look of the 1980s.

I feel like this is the newer variant Performative males for this era?

I think the “hipster” look is alive an well with all the guys who opened overpriced barbecue or taco joints that serve whiskey and tequila. Trends fade because the people who keep to them grow old and the younger generation does something different to not be “like their parents” or gen whatever the fuck category people are bulked into.

Eventually performative males will eventually open matcha and boba tea shops. To than be replaced by something else people can make fun of for 10 years.

Also dads who took up brewing as a hobby (at least around here)

TBF I have nothing against the hipster look - except for the various beards and 'staches. I tried it: a sculpted beard is a fuckton of work, like a second hairdo basically. It also requires appropriate growth; not all men have it.
