I just watched the first episode of Billy the kid, it was a random choice. Really liked it. Hopefully it stays good. Also just started s2 of raising hope
I’m very late to the party, but I heard of “The Terror” via a meme on youtube, so that’s what I’ve been watching this last week. Excellent show about British sailors trying to find a passage between Europe and Asia by going north of America, and it has an excellent story and is very well casted. Jared Harris always kills it.
I’ve been watching a bit of “Peacemaker” season 1 after finally having watched the movie “The Suicide Squad” in which at least 3 of the characters from the show also appears in, so that’s been fun.
I’m also trying to watch a bit of “Star Trek: Prodigy”, although my tolerance for kid stuff ain’t what it used to be, so I’m struggling a bit. It’s not that the story is bad, it’s just that the characters are a bit flat and sometimes annoying.Brassic-
A British dramedy. Follows a group of lowlifes doing lowlife things. Entertaining and good production values.
The Lowdown-
Still maintaining this is the best show running right now. A neo noir detective type show. Made by the same guy who did reservation dogs. Seriously watch this one.
The Chair Company-
Looking good so far. A conspiracy comedy type thing with surrealist vibes. Excited to see where this one goes
Great recommendations. I’ll definitely check out The Lowdown and The Chair Company.
How “bratty” is “Brassic”? It has an incredible score almost 8 out of 10 on IMDb atm. but it does look a bit juvenile, so I wonder if it’s worth my time or not.
Idk what you mean by bratty. It’s definitely for grownups. I think it’s very well done. I honestly can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before. I’d recommend it to someone I liked. Give it a couple episodes, see how you feel about it.
I should’ve used another word than bratty, just thought “brassic” was a portmanteau of brat or bratty and classic. Immature or chavvy might’ve been better.
But I’ll give it a go then.I’ve just put on episode two of The Lowdown, brilliant stuff. And really well casted. Sad that Johnny Pemberton was only in episode 1 though.
I love the lowdown. Every episode is him delving into someone else’s self contained (almost), world. And you’re in for a treat, every episode has top notch guest spots.
still watching the good place. its not bad. sorta amazing they kept the plot going but it so far is maintaining the fun.
I recently finished Dept. Q. I didn’t know what to expect from the show going in, other than that it was a mystery with good reviews and a bit of a horror theme (not sure that second bit is accurate after watching it myself). I was surprised it was an almost all-Scottish cast, but it was a welcome change and there were lots of familiar faces who delivered great performances. It’s undoubtedly a good show, but I came away feeling a little underwhelmed. There was a lot of hype about this show from people around me but to me it was just a pretty standard, good quality crime drama. There is really nothing about it that stands out, and the first season’s mystery (there is a more interesting overarching mystery that will presumably be concluded in later seasons) was quite easy to solve with a lot of red herring filler that was never even slightly convincing. It also does that annoying modern mystery trope of connecting the dots from both ends, rather than following the detective’s progress. The audience always has way more information than the characters investigating the mystery so the last couple of episodes was nearly two hours worth of the show just going through the motions, “revealing” things that were already incredibly obvious by that point. It’s also not scary at all, unlike what other people said, and it has this really sappy ending that felt like it came from a completely different show. It has enough going for it that I’d watch another season, though it feels like it could become a bit too formulaic in the long-run.
Recently mentioned it on Lemmy and so must recommend black sails. Probably the single most underrated show I’ve ever seen.
Caught up on “From”. Been hate-watching it. Total “Lost” rip-off. It even stars one of the original Lost cast members. I’ve fast forwarded through a lot of it as it’s got a lot of talky nonsense filler. If it had been edited better it might be two seasons instead of three. I doubt that I will watch season 4, and honestly they should just wrap it up already.
I watched about four episodes of the first season but this line from the Red Letter Media guys about it feeling worringly similar to Lost put me off. I just felt like there was too much risk of it either a) getting cancelled or b) meandering its way to a really poorly written conclusion because viewers guessed the big twist in the first season.
It’s also got writers and showrunners(?) From lost as well. Supposedly they have a show bible so they aren’t winging like with Lost (and apparently Harold wouldn’t sign on for the show if they didn’t have a proper outline.)
Having said all that, I am also hate watching it at this point. We’ve gotten some answers, but not enough.
I couldn’t get through the first episode. I wanted to like it…
I watched Peacemaker, because there was nothing else. I was pleasantly surprised. It was better than I expected and little sad if James Gunn doesn’t want to make more. Ideas were a bit old and used, but still well utilised.
They really flopped the landing on that season finale, and by the looks of it, the show won’t be revisited for many years. Sucks because it’s actually kind of good.
And I even watched it before I watched “The Suicide Squad” (not the Will Smith one), a movie I only just watched last week. It put some things into perspective and I’ve begun rewatching season 1 again.I’m a week or two behind, but I’m enjoying Peacemaker as well. Gunn’s style and preferred themes could eventually wear thin, but he knows how to combine gross and camp and likeable. PM feels a lot like a much swearier GOTG.
Task:
I just did episode 6 of 7 and this show just keeps getting better each episode. This last episode was intense and I am really curious as to how it will all be tied off next week.
Bodies:
Brits do love their cop shows and I guess if I am honest with myself so am I as I keep watching them. So this here is not one, not two, nor is it even three it is FOUR cop shows all at once.
This isn’t much of a spoiler as you learn this within the fist 15 minutes of E1, It is really interesting setup Four cops find the same exact body in the same exact alleyway, one is in the late 1800s, one is during WWII, one is on the modern day and one is 30 years into the future.
Stephen Graham is peaking and he is clearly riding his wave.
Slow Horses:
I have only done the first episode of the new season and this season starts off right where last season ended and it just so great.
Stranger Things:
What can I say it is the current best show airing so I am doing a rewatch ahead of next season. I just re-watched season 2 episode 8 and man watching Bob Newby die still really sucks.
I hope to finish this current rewatch before the end of November, when the next season comes out.
William Tecumseh Sherman: Beyond the March to the Sea:
One of the many down sides of being raised as poor white trash in a Virginia city is that you get a deluge of Civil War Propaganda growing up. I have been indoctrinated into all the lore that reveres General Lee but I have never really know much about all the significant Northern Generals. So I have been on a bit of a kick to change that.
Sherman famously gutted the South to win the war for slavery. He destroyed Atlanta and then proceeded to do the same to everything he could.
This doc is not about that. It is all about everything else he did. He was a lawyer an engineer, a banker the head of a university in Louisiana and survived two ships wrecks in the same day.
He also fought in all the Indian Wars leading up to the Civil and lost so many battle because his forces were outnumbered and ordered to back off at key moments. He learned that is how to prolong a war, so when his time came in the civil war…
The Crimean War:
This documentary is about the Crimean War that famously featured The Charge of the Light Brigade and Florence Nightengale.
As with all wars it is a war of idiocy, stupid reasons and terrible leadership. Like all wars it was only supposed to last a month, so it started badly and never got better.
No need for proper sanitation, we wont be there that long…no need for proper supply or medical services, we wont be there that long…
Four months into the war, that was only supposed to last a month, the French and English Army had lost 10,000 men and hadn’t fired a shot.
Cholera is an unforgiving critter…
I enjoyed Bodies. There were things I wish were done different, but I’d still watch it again.
I am loving it!
Been watching a lot of shows the past few weeks. I’ll just write the names now of the ones I’m currently watching and recommend then add descriptions, write in better order and add imdb links later today when I have more time.

Just watched the first episode of S3 of Loot
I’m watching The Paper by the same team as The Office. I was looking forward to it but obviously didn’t get my hopes up. I LOVE IT!!! It’s its own show, and it’s got some great characters. Really happy with it.
