They waited two years to even start filming season two. They’ve lost any momentum that they had.

Chalking up Discovery’s unpopularity as “bigotry” is lazy.
Just absolutely horrible writing and plot points. Perfectly good actors and characters wasted every season.
That said, Doug Jones steals the show and creates a fascinating character.

Hacks should probably end on an up note. I think Euphoria is just about played out. I won’t be surprised if the upcoming season is its last. Last Of Us only has one season left unless they ignore the ratings drop and start making seasons without source material from the game. As far as DC, they just canceled Peacemaker which is bizarre.
I also wonder what the contract with George RR Martin is like — will Netflix be able to just make whatever shows/spinoffs they want from that property? I thought the momentum there was dead, but the Knight of 7 show seems to be getting positive reviews.

What does HBO have left that Netflix will inherit? Anything interesting, or just back catalog? I wonder if Netflix will try to reboot or spin off any of the more familiar canceled properties…

The Cop/Doctor/Lawyer show cycle just goes on and on. They’re known as “procedurals” and have been around forever. For some reason they’re very popular (NCIS has been on for 23 years!).
Every now and then you get an interesting riff like comedy (Car 54) or edgy (Miami Vice, NYPD Blue) or soapy (LA Law, Grays Anatomy). But usually they are just dry/drab (Dragnet and Dick Wolf).
Westerns went through the same kind of churn.

If the Kurtzman era ever ends, it would be great to see a new crew having to take the station out of mothballs when some interstellar crisis erupts.

Watching season 2 of the BBC adaptation of The Tripods from 1984. So far, not as goods as the first season. Also it’s not following the books very closely this season, so that’s probably why. Honestly surprised this hasn’t been remade yet.

Before you downvote this, the article also talks about how color blind casting can elevate programs when done well. The advice given to the BBC is to not be lazy about it or you might do more harm than good.

A show about competent people exploring the universe?

It’s strange that they doubled down on ”Discovery: The Sequel” and expected success. It reminds me of when everyone hated the Star Trek Enterprise theme song, so instead of replacing it the producers just “jazzed it up”.

He did a great job of inheriting the show from Letterman.

Lack of FTC enforcement means we’re moving in the wrong direction here. Things should be splitting up, not merging even further.

So unlike the extra seasons of Handmaids Tale, this one actually has a corresponding source book from the author, Margaret Atwood.
Even so, I wasn’t sure what the point was in writing “The Testaments” since the first book stands so strongly on its own. Why weaken its message with a sequel?

So many sternly worded letters going around this week. I’m sure that will make all the difference!
🙄

Running from one superpower dependency to another.

Stick to season 1. It is a complete story. The rest of the seasons feel like a completely different show and aren’t very good.
