I’m a farmer. I warned my neighbors. I’ve had two hardcore trumpers walk up to me nowon two separate occasions now and tell me to my face “you were right”

I took no victory lap when either of them admitted it. The fact they admitted it was mind-blowing in and of itself. I didnt think they could ever be broken to admit it.

My response, “we’ve got three more years of this bullshit”.

We’re all in this together. But now you fucking understand.

Honestly I don’t think they actually understand. Ask them who they plan to vote for in the mid-terms.

If they truly understand then they should never utter the word Republican for the rest of their lives.

You are probably right. But from personal experience with both of the people who admitted they were wrong, the huge dose of humble pie they ate to ever admit to me, that’s takes real effort. One sees it in his pocketbook. He may forget. The other sees it after a solid dozen of his employees have been deported after ice raids. He’s hurting in his pocketbook and in the personal relationships he has built with his employees.

To be fair I’ve told these people that all farmers should be voting dem across the board, quite militantly, for years now. But guns and “Jesus” made them think I was a madman. I know and understand who’s blood and sweat our tiny world is built on,and finally they are starting to understand it. I hope it is a lesson that sticks. I’ll be doing my damned best to make sure it does.

These are people that have fallen for propaganda. Decades of it. They aren’t bad. They are just stupid for not paying attention. We can fix that. Call it out but please don’t forget your empathy. I’m having a hard enough time as it is.

I’m already getting blasted with ads for the heir apparent to replace Beto here in Texas. Some baby faced compromise that the Texas DNC has picked because of the fucking algorithm or something. Useless bastards all of them. All the Dems in deep red that I know are watching with waited breath for mamdami to win so we can use it as an actual example of what real policy ideals and ‘fuck the DNC’ effort can be. It’s a thousand miles away but that’s what we fucking need to show that these basic ass milquetoast candidates don’t work. Ann Richards hasn’t been relevant for thirty years but they keep trying the same goddamn thing. Fingers crossed they figure it out eventually.

They’re not gonna figure it out because their paycheck depends on it. The DNC — the entire party establishment — needs to have the baby thrown out with the bathwater if the average American has any hope of legitimate opposition to corporate dictatorship.

The situation echoes the 2018-2020 trade war, during which U.S. agriculture lost $26 billion, with nearly $20 billion in soybean losses alone. Soybeans accounted for 71% of agricultural losses experienced by American farmers during that earlier conflict.

Despite acknowledging that he believes Trump “loves farmers” and is “trying to do what’s right for this country,” he emphasized the need for immediate action: “We gotta make sure that we survive through these tough times.”

    Friends… nothing is changing.

China’s smart to redirect purchases to Brazil so aggressively. If they want to create political pressure, it’s effective… But I think they underestimate political loyalty to whatever Trump’s doing these days.

CCP, if you’re reading this, go after the rich guys’ pockets. Trust me, that will create pressure overnight.

There are actually a lot of democrat farmers. Most of their polls get really poorly represented by being lumped in with Agriculture Industry as a whole.

I’m pretty upset about it. I really don’t like seeing fields of rotting crops, and I don’t want all the farms sold to mega agrocorps

You’re absolutely right, it DOESN’T feel good to see so many people getting fucked like this. We SHOULDN’T have to see this in our lifetimes. We’re SUPPOSED to be better than this.

But in this day and age, in this absolute clusterfucked circus of a timeline, some people are just so goddamn stupid, so deeply indoctrinated, and stubborn, and hateful, and all the other things we associate with modern Republican voters, that the unfortunate truth is that trying to talk to these people, and warn them of the consequences of their actions, just doesn’t work anymore. They don’t wanna hear it, and should you try to tell them, they either legitimately don’t understand, don’t give 2 shits, actively want it, or some combo of all 3 and more.

And so the only option we have left is letting the idiot blow off his fingers with the firecrackers, while trying to contain the fallout, because at this point they simply will not learn, otherwise. It’s awful, and terrible, and a nasty way to deal with it, but when the people we’re trying to help and save are so adversarial towards anyone trying to help them… all you can do is wait for them to come to you.

Trump’s goal was always to smash small businesses and prop up large corporations. Just because someone has the same racism and xenophobia as you, does not mean they are your ally. Maybe someday these idiots will stop letting themselves be manipulated by culture war issues, and realize the economic and legal policy is what’s important. It’s harder to understand, but it’s what actually affects your life.

The problem is that the economic and legal policy is dogshit on both sides of the aisle. Less dogshit on one side, but it’s not like the Democrats were ever trying to solve people’s problems in the last 50 years.

People are fed up and looking for answers. Republicans give the wrong answers, while Democrats gaslight about how much progress is being made. When people don’t buy the rather obvious gaslighting, they turn to the only answers being offered.

Yes. Democratic gaslighting is “complete and total fucking lies” too. I was differentiating. Republicans lies offer a narrative and enemies to fight. Democratic lies try to tell people watching the American dream die that it’s all just “progress”. Of the two, Republican lies are way more viral, in more than one way.

Name a time when the right wing Democratic party have had a clear shot at improving things. You know since they’ve had to clean up the absolute DISASTERS that every Republican lying cheating stealing thief of a “president” has forced upon us. Every single time that they seize power, they destroy the economy and our rights. Every single fucking time.

I don’t look to them for salvation but holy fuck at least you can count on somewhat of a sense of stability when the actual (still shitty) human beings are in charge.

Having a chance to improve things is a Democratic nightmare scenario, and they do everything in their power to make sure they never get that opportunity. But how about today? Today they could endorse the Democratic nominee for mayor of NYC. That has a good chance of improving some things. Or how about Bill Clinton not choosing to dismantle the federal safety net, or Obama choosing to prosecute Wall Street criminals instead of reward them? How about not kneecapping Medicare For All at every opportunity? How about not trying to be Republican lite on immigration or trans rights? How about articulating any kind of vision to compete with Republican hate mongering in the public psyche?

It’s not all about passing legislation. Passing legislation is what happens after you have done all the real work that the Democratic establishment refuses to do.

I’m not disagreeing with any of that. I’m simply stating that things are ALWAYS exponentially worse when the demon spawn fascists seize power.

I wasn’t ever thinking about converting my USD to Renminbi when Biden was in office. Didn’t expect the entire country and economy to collapse at any moment.

So yea, things aren’t nearly perfect under democratic leadership. But significantly and undeniably better in every single metric.

Can someone explain how Trump screwed over farmers? I work with farmers in the northern US, and it was a shorter season for some, but I don’t know how Trump hurt them. Is this strictly because you think tariffs are hurting them, or is it something I missed?

It’s currently affecting soybean farmers the most and it’s a combination of 2 things:

The tariffs have caused China to shift their entire soybean import to Brazil entirely. China purchased 60% of our soybean export and was the biggest customer

The second biggest customer was…USAID…which drumpy also nixed (iirc I think they were another 30% or something)

I don’t feel bad for those immorally underpaying and abusing the desperate and undocumented (maybe the vast majority of them?), but I kinda do for those who weren’t. It’s not so black and white, sometimes people are just more stupid than they are evil and fall for low level propaganda. We should strive to build a world that’s a bit more foolproof, IMO.

Immigrant labor abuse depends on what you’re farming. Corn and soybeans are ridiculously well automated and only need a few people to run hundreds of acres.

Anything else? Needs teams of workers, and of course those are going to be abused immigrants.

The issue isn’t this food in particular, it’s what happens to the farmers going forward. A lot of independent farmers are on thin margins. One lost year of income could leave them unable to afford planting for next year.
