The Trump administration has put on hold $6.8 billion in federal funds for K-12 schools, according to an Education Department notice obtained by States Newsroom. […] The agency informed states on Monday that it would be withholding funding for several programs, including before- and after-school programs, migrant education and English-language learning, among other initiatives.

Republicans have nothing but contempt for the poorly educated. And they’re creating more of them, because Conservatism depends on ignorant people.

They want them already speaking it before they get here. They don’t want to spend the money to educate people outside of the bare minimum of what’s required to make Amerikkka run.

One of my classes I am currently taking for my grad program to get my master’s in elementary education will probably be discussing this.

I would argue that one can still hate immigrants and also realize that they bring value. Doesn’t Trump employ immigrants at Mar A Lago? They want some here, but they would prefer they speak English because they refuse to learn any other languages. You save money not printing songs in other languages or hiring interpreters, etc.

They would be happy to educate immigrants just enough to ingrain them into our system for labor, but it’s easier if they speak English because it’s quicker education and less money.

Trump would bring back slavery if he could. He doesn’t give a shit about immigrants, only profit. He only hires immigrants because he can pay them less.

Time for states to freeze payments to the Trump administration. He’ll only grift them into his own pockets anyway. They can just fund their education programs directly.

I don’t fucking care how hard it is logistically to do this, all blue states need to execute on withholding payments yesterday.

I myself have slashed my federal tax payments by ~75% for 2 years now and they can come get that money when I’m dead.

Underpay one year, get on a super cheap repayment plan (say, $100/mo).

Then keep underpaying and they just tack it on to the balance but your payment stays the same.

My friend has been doing it for 8+ years now and has racked up six figures+. I’ve only been doing it for 3ish.

I don’t actually advise this as I’m not a lawyer or an accountant and it could go very badly.

If garnishment does happen, one possible advantage is that most of my jobs are 1099 contract nowadays so maybe I could skirt that? I honestly don’t know. I don’t care right now, in roughly a year I plan to leave the US and never return.

Besides the hope that brown and black people would also be harmed, I wonder how the typical conservative voter thinks this kind of thing is going to help them?

I wonder how the typical conservative voter thinks this kind of thing is going to help them?

Many are older without children in schools anymore and are happy they are not “paying to teach other people’s kids” even though they themselves were the recipients of older Americans paying for them to go through public schools. Others are rich paying to send their kids to private schools or rich enough to pay to send them to religious school so they too are happy to not fund public schools. The last group are poor conservatives that can’t afford private schools and have children in public schools. This group are “temporarily embarrassed millionaires” that aren’t bothered because they’ll be sending their kids to private schools “real soon now”. They are just happen to be invited to the meetings tearing down society and the safety nets that sustain them everyday.

      They’re stupid.

      That’s how.

They’re stupid because their regional educational system failed them. And that’s why they don’t have the intelligence to understand why underfunding education is a bad thing.

We’ve seen the exact same playbook with universities. Pull federal funding for racist political priorities, and other funding if they don’t start toeing the line.
