Why is anyone analysing the star wars stories, they are all incoherent nonsense at this point.
But she isn’t a Jedi. In the Star Wars universe EVERYTHING is connected to the Force and can tap into that energy with varying results through practice. People who have a particularly strong connection to the Force were sought after to be trained as Jedi or Sith.
I think Ahsoka telling Sabine that she could use the Force in any meaningful way was a mistake. Sabine is Mandalorian, she’s already as strong and as much of a threat as a Jedi, just by other means.
The only good reason to hone Sabine’s connection to the Force would be to have her wield the Darksaber. Which no longer exists.
i think you’re pretty much saying the same thing as the writer quoted. they just used “jedi” for brevity.
I’ve never gotten into the Star Wars lore very deep. Why would the ability to use the force be a prerequisite to use a lightsaber or the darksaber? Both are weapons that seemingly only require pushing a button and swinging. Any old asshole could do that, couldn’t they?
The lore has changed many times over the decades. Before Disney I believe you did need the force to properly use it.
I don’t remember where I heard it, but it makes sense… You “need” the force for the simple fact that accidents happen. Though unlike a normal blade, it’s a bit harder to heal from a lightsaber wound. So in theory, it’s simply too dangerous for most people to roll the dice and try to become competent without risking serious injury or death over a whole career. (although their medicine and prosthetics are crazy good too, so probably not the biggest deal outside of immediately killing oneself)
Not to say it didn’t happen in small quantities, though. Plenty of cases of people not terribly attuned at all picking them up to success, at least for individual fights/battles. Like plenty of clone troopers doing so. Also General Grievous and the like definitely existed. I doubt he had too much of a connection.
Also lightsabers are extremely rare, so… probably just risky business most people didn’t have the oportunity to even roll the dice with.
More importantly, it’s just stupid to have a sword when other people have blasters unless you’re a space wizard that can block laser blasts.
The Darksaber was a symbol, not a real weapon. Tbf the writers lost the plot on that element when it was still in a specifically-for-children show.
IINM, Mandalorian suggested the Darksaber felt heavier to people with zero talent in the Force, so minimal training is required, I think. IIRC there were discussions on whether this applied to all lightsabers, and I vaguely recall Rebels hinting at the same idea, I don’t remember much but I think Kanan was already training Sabine in regard to the Darksabers for the same reason, and Ahsoka simply continued that plotline even though it got busted in Mando. But I don’t know where that went or if that was really ironed out and standardized or if people kept writing whatever they wanted.
It’s not that the Darksaber felt heaver to non-Force-sensitives, it’s that it felt heavier because Din, and Sabine, to a lesser extent, didn’t feel worthy of the blade and was subconsciously rejecting it. It’s a general property of lightsabers rather than a specific property of the Darksaber, but other blades don’t have so much meaning and cultural importance making that kind of psychological block likely to happen.
They can rehash the Death Star plot four times, but they can’t bring back the Darksaber. I feel taken advantage of.
