The idea that games, books and comics need film and TV adaptations is like this weird cultural chauvinism where there’s a pending order to media types, and it’s not enough to merely be the best best possible game or whatever it could be.
Movies and TV also get game adaptions.
Why? Show is great.

There is a fallout movie, it’s called A Boy and his Dog
I didn’t like the series, mostly because it was very vanilla. I would have much preferred if it was based on A Boy and his Dog, many of the 80s Italian Mad Max clones (2019, After the Fall of New York), Neon City and even something like Turbo Kid.
An arguement can be made that to make social commentary effective you need a bit more subtly.
Fallout shouldn’t have a show or a movie.
I’d argue The Last of Us shouldn’t be a show or a movie.
It is character focused, and even though the show is good, it’s fundamentally an adaption of a story which has already been told.
Fallout (as a series) is less character focused, and more focused on the world - which is very fleshed out, making it a great platform to build upon.
You could argue the games already contain meta-narratives in book-form; often the story of the locations you visit is unveiled through progressive terminal entries or notes.
I see no issue with telling another story within the world Bethesda/Obsidian have established, which retain the core feel of Fallout, minus he player choice.
One might say “but the player choice is what makes it Fallout”.
Fair, but isn’t hearing the stories of another persons experiences with the game just as interesting as your own?
Fair enough if that’s what you think, but I’ve played them all, going back to 1 and 2 on computers where I had to check the system requirements, and I find the show to be very watchable and fun. Have you given it a chance?

You didn’t want a “video game movie director”, but you still made the equivalent of the Mario Movie. A little more fan service wouldn’t kill the show. Reading journals, hacking computers, feral ghouls, side quests. A little faster pace would help too.
That’s just my opinion. I’m sure other people will disagree.
but they’ve had all of those things, plus VATs, Bloody Mess, chems, loot chests, loading screens, out of bounds glitches, kiting enemies, npc dialogue, buggy aggro, FISTO bot, HUDs, unmarked quests, vendors… there’s a ton of fan service.
Yeah, I don’t know what they’re on about. I was just doing a replay of F:NV, and the Strip and Freeside sets alone are enough to satisfy most of your fan service needs. There were little nods to the lore and game mechanics all over the place in both seasons, to the point where I actually got pulled out of the story a couple of times.
I get why they didn’t focus on feral ghouls, because this isn’t The Walking Dead, but…

You can say the exact same stuff about The Last of Us which is also well done. Some things just wouldn’t translate well to TV, especially with 8 episode seasons.
Look I’m not even trying to say you’re wrong for wanting something different, but at least acknowledge it could have been a lot worse, like the Halo TV show.
Oh, absolutely. Rampage? Need for Speed? Any fighting game movie? Sonic was entertaining. So was the Mario movie, honestly. But both of those are tough to make into films. They kind of strayed from their original source, just like Fallout. But when it comes to video games as live action, there’s a high bar that was set for me. I had higher expectations due to it and maybe that’s my issue. Fallout could translate to this medium much better as was shown by The Last of Us. Season 1 was immaculate. It captured the video game and the characters and even added more depth to them. I expected too much, I guess.
Pacing is my worst complaint about the show, I’ve stopped watching until a full season is out because in some episodes nothing actually happens. Also they keep doing hard cuts to black with a bass hit as a transition over and over again, I think thats really lazy.
Other than that, I agree with your comment and still really enjoying the show as a longtime fallout fan.

Initially, your comment was one sentence asking me if I would agree that there’s a lot of terrible video game movies. Then you argued in your initial comment points that I made in my reply.
To be fair, Bezos did make the right call with the Expanse. He’s got precedent for potentially having good taste in Scifi.
I feel like the idea that bezos had any influence in the taste department is suspect. Billionaires are the most out of touch people on the planet. Anything that sounds good comes from PR/advisors.
Could be true, but they were very interested in making it known before and after how much Bezos personally enjoyed the show.
