We’re moving closer to digital IDs.
Stop using the Internet. Go find sex on the streets, parks, bars, public restrooms etc like it was the 70s. /S
Wait a second … None of this is actually about porn it’s about tracking and surveillance and a new world lifestyle.
Wasn’t tbe 1970s the decade with all the sex cults and where human trafficing started becoming a thing?
Pretty sure all this shit they dramatize has been a constant since the beginning of “civilization.”
God forbid a kid see a boob.
Kids can see boobs everyday on tv. All they have to do is watch any newscast that features our president.
…see, the joke is, I’m calling trump a boob. Which as far as insults go, I’m letting him off very lightly. I could and should and do normally call him much worse. But it wouldn’t fit with the joke format here…
Fuck it, let kids watch porn.
That’s your worst-case scenario, right? That’s why these pearls are clutched? Well I don’t care. Minors with ready access to vanilla photographs of naked people, on above-board commercial websites? So what. The horrors imagined by conservative dullards are a mundane experience for millions of people, and relatively few of them become dog-fuckers or axe-murderers. Almost like a healthy libido is normal and 18 isn’t the day you take the shrink-wrap off your genitals.
By all means, keep actual smut off broadcast TV. Expect websites to put the weird stuff behind warnings. Don’t sell porn to minors. But if your website doesn’t take a credit card to visit, hey guess what, anyone can see it, and anyone will. Oh well. People who think that’s the end of the world are lunatics who mean it literally.
Anonymity allows some assholes to abuse women, send death threats to people they don’t like, ask kids for naked selfies, etc. It seems to me that a lot of hatred and aggression we see online comes from this anonymity.
A few years of this kind of interactions create division in society, people trust each other less and less. Is it surprising that fascism is on the rise everywhere on the planet when hatred has been normalized in social media?
I don’t know if digital id is the best solution for this, but its the only one I can think of, and it seems to me that anonymity is the cause of too many problems to dismiss any potential solution.
Fascism isn’t on the rise because of hatred in social media, that has always been a problem and its bigger than social media itself. It’s on the rise because social media just gave these people an easy way to voice themselves, which in turn can spread to others with a lack of critical thinking. People do that shit without anonymity too, it’s not exclusive to the online world either. It stems from societal issues.
Digital ID just places more restrictions on freedoms, gives the state more control over it’s citizens. It doesn’t solve anything, that’s all lies, to convince people it’s a good thing. Unless national intranets are deployed and the cables abroad cut, you are never going to fully control the web.
Anyone should be able to share their voice, with anonymity if they so choose. Letting the bad actors ruin it for the rest of us is a shitty take.
The biggest proponents of fascism over the last 9 years have been figureheads recording themselves IRL, with their name and face synonymous with their views. Andrew Tate. Adin Ross. Elon Musk. Joe Rogan. Jeff Bezos. Mark Zuckerberg. Peter Thiel. Sam Altman. Every single Republican politician.
Removing anonymity is just going to further silence any who deviate from socially-acceptable views. The socially-acceptable views in the Western world are fascism, Christo-nationalism, Zionism, and bigotry. That’s what you support with Digital ID.
personally, I would love to find out who you are. I think once we have a face to face discussion in you living room at 3am you might come around to see things differently.
👆 this is what you’re advocating for.
You know, I’m still on the fence about a universal digital id. Yes, it can be a tool of mass surveillance, but in 2025 governments don’t need it to track everything you do online. And anonymity allows a lot of assholes to speak without fear of consequences. Politicians get a lot of death threats, women get a lot of abuse… It has to be controlled and used in a way that respects the right to privacy, but it could be a solution to many problems online.
This sounds like more of a “well I can’t control it anyway, and they already know everything, so fine” kind of cop-out as opposed to an actual argument in favor of digital ID.
What benefit would it provide?
To me, or them?
