You know, I’m still on the fence about a universal digital id. Yes, it can be a tool of mass surveillance, but in 2025 governments don’t need it to track everything you do online. And anonymity allows a lot of assholes to speak without fear of consequences. Politicians get a lot of death threats, women get a lot of abuse… It has to be controlled and used in a way that respects the right to privacy, but it could be a solution to many problems online.
This sounds like more of a “well I can’t control it anyway, and they already know everything, so fine” kind of cop-out as opposed to an actual argument in favor of digital ID.
