Theatre chains still refusing to believe that they priced themselves out of customers. Fifteen dollars for 15 cents worth of popcorn anyone? How about we show you an advertisement or two without reducing the entry fee (shouldn’t viewing adverts cause the price to fall?). We need cheap theatres for the masses again.
One or two advertisements? It’s at least 15 fucking minutes here. I stopped going to theaters.
Last time I went it was nearly half an hour of ads (if you include movie trailers)

Box office is how the money guys define if a movie is a failure or not.
That has nothing to do with if I love the movie or not,
Hell most of my favorite movies were box office failures:
- The Thing
- Starman
- It’s a Wonderful Life
- The Iron Giant
- Blowout
- Dazed and Confused
- The Big Lebowski
- The Shawshank Redemption
And many more.
Big Lebowski made $48M on a cost of $15M. Box office means little, all those films made money.

Flat characters, boring corporate approved storyline, zero risks taken, what’s not to like? This should have been a box office blowout!
He’s got a point about movies growing on people, of course. However, a movie’s opening weekend is most likely going to be its biggest. Also, it’s generally agreed that Ares is terrible, this isn’t the kind of film people will look back on in ten or twenty years and think “this is actually a hidden gem!”
Idk man, Tron is a weird franchise. For one, I dispute your assertion that the consensus is the movie is bad. By and large, the takes I have come across boil down to, “It’s okay…but why is it here?”.
Review aggregators (while not the be-all-end-all of a movie’s reception, hence Bridges’ quote in the article) suggest the critics are about evenly split and audiences are generally higher on it. At worst, the response is mixed.
The reason I bring this up is because, if your comment had a mishap with the Internet Wayback Machine and was sent back in time 15 years, I wouldn’t blink an eye at “Ares”. I’d have just automatically subbed in “Legacy”, cause there’s no way I would have guessed the Disney was going to make the same mistake a third time when it comes to Tron.
As much as I dislike the use of genAI in art/entertainment, in this case I would be much more willing to watch this movie if someone used AI to replace Leto with literally anyone else.
It’s hilarious to see him say this considering that if you told me that Flynn in Ares was done with Gen AI I would be in no way surprised. His acting was so wooden, so disconnected

Box office failures are box office failures. Tron was a box office failure, but it’s also a classic. Time will tell if Ares will be a classic, but it’s definitely a box office failure.

One of the best children’s animated movies. I want a retouched release where the Drej pop off the screen as much as it seemed like they did back on the CRT tv; brilliant blue. And the wake angels. Chef’s kiss.
I have a shitty, glowy, 90’s CRT for that exact effect. Terminator 1 and 2, ET, and a bunch of classics also had that “ball lightning” effect that overexcites the phosphors on the screen.
Ugh I really need to get high some day and finally watch that movie…

I agree. Lots of great movies aren’t necessarily box office winners.
That being said I’m 95% sure From Ares is going to suffer the same fate as every other Tron.
We all collectively forget about them until the next one comes out in a decade.
