I always get mixed up in these posts where MtF or FtM aren’t specified lol. First read-through I thought the op had a MtF child, and the person buying the dress was being a dickhead.
Easy guide is just follow the first pronoun used. Unless it’s from a douchebag, anyway
For whatever reason my brain always defaults to the well-intentioned parent that mistakenly refers to their child as “son” or “daughter” despite having transitioned to the other. I think it’s because it’s relatively recent that a parent would just say “my son” instead of “my transgender son” or “my daughter that goes by x”, so when I see “my son” I assume they slipped.
A stray cat moved into my house and I assumed it was female because I know Jack shit about cats. 3 years later a more learned friend told me it was definitely a male.
I couldnt stop calling him a girl.
Im gonna have a hard time if anyone i know transitions
my tied for favorite cat, we got her as a bottle feeder and they told us he was male. so we gave him a male name. he learned his name and would come when we called, like a puppy. when it was time to get him snipped, we took him in for the last appointment of the day. they didn’t have time to do a spaying, but they did have time for a neutering. and, well, we found out that we should maybe reconsider her name. (also they doped her up before they looked so come back tomorrow, don’t worry about today’s drugs damn we had a good vet. about a week later there was a meth lab bust at the folks’ we got him from’s garage, so we liked to joke she was a crack baby. may well have been true, too) but she was already coming when i called! so she because genderfluid at our discretion. when she was bad she was a he, when he was good he was a she, and when she was neither he was cat. unless we forgot and did it all backwards, so it flip flopped a lot.
in our defense, we never bothered to look for harbls.
sometimes i accidentally call my wife He/Him because of that damn cat. my trans friends find it cute that i suck at gendernormativity, so whatever.
Yeah I get that, I usually have to reread it a time or two to make sure I understand exactly what’s being said. I don’t want my middle aged brain to get confused, I’m dumb enough as it is.
And therein lies the issue. I see old man PFP, “Sunday school” mentioned; “former”? Did you reform yourself or change churches? LDS? Oh boy, here we go
So starting from the first pronoun lead me to assume wrong since I assumed the tweet was from a douchebag.
But now I get it and I’m much happier
oof i lived in the jello belt for too long too
I left the lds church because it doesn’t line up with the teachings of Jesus. I still consider myself lds and I think the rest of the church is “former”.
The church went stupid, not god.
A good example:
I believe this is gods country, therefore everyone is invited and welcomed regardless of who they are. We are commanded to love each other and I love you all. I believe in open borders, universal healthcare, social safety nets, and that people should be accepted for who they are. I’m pro choice, your first breath is when life begins, not conception.

Ii get confused listening to podcast a story of a trans person. It can get really confusing between pretransition and post or when talking about stuff. Authors handle it differently still be like
“Then they taunted with him with ‘ugly mike!’ But Rebecca knew she would prove them wrong the following year”
Luckily every trans person I’ve met in real life is happy if you just put in the effort to try. I’ve never been yelled at for a mistake just kindly corrected and I apologize. Very civil.
I feel like we need a different pronoun, “they” makes a story confusing very quickly.
typically the pronouns used will be the one they are going with at the time of writing/event being described.
Yeah I read it wrong at first and thought they were misgendering him. 😅
I am not mtf but I wore a dress to my second prom. Was kind of a middle finger to gender norms in my punk era.
Aww! That’s so adorable! Prom dresses are super short lived unfortunately but it might be nice to get one for myself for a queer prom
