I don’t want to see Kimmel come back as if nothing happened. I want to see him find a new platform and farm the stupidity of Disney, Sinclair, etc for gold for the next few months. What Disney and co. did was not some stupid PR misstep, they let the mask slip on how easily they would fall in line behind a political pay master to keep him happy and in the process effectively violate the 1st amendment by giving the government a method of silencing speech. Which should be the kind of thing that burns the whole corporation to the ground and gets those in charge ostracized from polite society.

There should be no coming back for them from this.

Don’t re-sign up, remember this moment, they aren’t you friends. Torrent the movies/shows you want to watch, don’t go to their parks, don’t let your children get an early childhood obsession with them, don’t buy their toys and merchandise, and do this for all the evil companies.

McDonald’s, BK, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, dominos, papa John’s, pizza hut, those are easy ones. Stop eating fast food and stop feeding it to your children. I bet there are 20 good independent coffee shops near you, stop buying Nazi charcoal. Find a local pizza shop with a brick oven, I’m sure they deliver.

Google, Amazon, stop paying for their services. Buy some hard drives and learn to self host, it’s never been a better time. Blocks ads when not using their services.

Boycott and divestment works, it’s what ended apartheid in South Africa, it’s effecting Israel’s economy and may very well end the apartheid in Palestine once Americans wake up and stop the unlimited funding of genocide with their children’s future. These companies will only stop being evil when customers let them know that evil is a red line, but as long as apathy continues it’ll be more profitable to be as evil as they are today, and worse.

There’s that, but also Larry Ellison is a fucking monster and massive Trump booster. The Paramount deal that got rid of Colbert was due to the Ellison family owning Skydance, which just acquired Paramount.

Also Oracle is an enemy of OpenSource, they acquired Sun and MySQL and OpenOffice, then attempted to destroy them. Oracle can rot in hell.

I didn’t mean to leave them out, I wasn’t making an exhaustive list, I just thought of what everyone probably still uses and pays for (Google, YouTube, Amazon prime, etc).

Microsoft is all cloud and enterprise now, they are much harder to directly boycott effectively by consumers. But yes, avoid them too.

I know this is Lemmy where we’re all on Linux already, but a lot of people out there still use Windows, and that’s a massive source of income and control for Microsoft that people could stop using. At the very least they could cancel OneDrive.

I think the schedules going to cause burnout sooner rather than later.

In the group of people I play with, no one’s really buying anymore- a lot of times even for the ips they like.

Even the guys who pride themselves in having non-proxy cedh decks have given up- by the time you’ve got the new cards in 2 weeks later, chances are theres another replacement. Mow theyre playing woth proxies for the cards in their flex slots, and only buying 3-4 times a year when they make a trip to go to a tourney.

It at least makes me very happy how plausible it is for a completely independent artist to make games on Steam or Itch that are universally enjoyed. Sadly there is a current trend of “NSFW” games getting banned on those platforms…

I wanted to plug one game that had been particularly victimized. It was an “unreliable narrator” game where you played as a stalker obsessively trying to find the real name of his favorite pornstar. It was uncomfortable, artistic, thought-provoking, and immediately tripped the ban filters. I thought I bookmarked it but if someone else knows it a reminder would be awesome.

He should definitely do something else and shove it in their face. They still have to pay him regardless. I don’t think Spotify is the right route though…

I personally think he should tour a live show as Conan did and really take it up a notch. That single tour launched an entirely new world of opportunities for Conan, and I’m sure it would do the same for Kimmel.

Lou Wilson, a frequent cast member on dropout.tv works for Jimmy Kimmel as his opening act for the live audience. I don’t think dropout is actually a great fit of audience, but it’d be one hell of a swing to get Jimmy on a smaller streaming service like that. I’d love to see it, however unlikely. Ultimately he will probably just end up on Netflix or HBO

NBC News is also reporting more alarming news for the conglomerate.

“A number of celebrities, including NSYNC band member Lance Bass and ‘Transparent’ star Amy Landecker, have shared screenshots to social media that show their cancellations of their Disney-affiliated subscriptions,” NBC is reporting before adding, “As the message gained traction over the last day across social media sites, Google Trends showed an uptick of searches for the terms ‘cancel Disney Plus’ and ‘boycott Disney,’ as posters declared they were leaving the streaming platforms behind.”

That led popular podcaster Bill Simmons, who was doubtful about Kimmel’s ABC future to have second thoughts.

I don’t know who those people are. Or care. (I “know” NSYNC, but it’s not like I can name them or any songs.) As for a “popular” podcaster - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ okay?

Just - for a huge story on billion dollar media conglomerates folding under fascism, ending with . . . that - what I quoted there . . . ehh. Not great. Obama? Harrison Ford? fuck, i dunno - someone with a little more footprint or relevance?

Kimmel and Colbert are rich they can afford it. They don’t have to start a new ABC studio. A small indie internet only studio is way more affordable than a full network that broadcasts on cable. If Sam Reich can afford to start a successful streaming service so can Kimmel and Colbert.

This is some kayfabe bullshit you suckers keep falling for over and over.

The illusion of conflict, the dog wagging the tail, manufactured outrage and consent.

Please people, we didn’t score any kind of victory here, this entire experiment was a success, it drove up media engagement, lit up the ratings, got people to start saying brand-names all day and got both political sides to feel smug and rewarded for that engagement. Disney calculates their projections in terms of decades, whatever short-term dips they get are more than made up for by the public engagement.

YOU ARE BEING MILKED AND NOT IN A FUN WAY
