Time and time again, Jeffries has refused to endorse his own party’s official candidate for mayor in his own city, two months after Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York by double digits – including Jeffries’ own congressional district by eight points.
This is the same Democratic party leader who has insisted in the past that progressives should “vote BLUE (no matter who)”. But centrists? Apparently, they’re under no such obligation.
Jeffries is not alone in his brazen hypocrisy. Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader who represents the state of New York and lives in the city of New York, has also refused to endorse his own party’s official candidate for mayor of New York.
Reminder that republicans resisted Trump too, even a after it was evident that he was going to win. Trump didn’t let that stop him and ultimately he remade the party in his image. The old guard will always resist change. But there’s a real hunger for the kind of policies Mamdani represents among the people, and as of yet, the power still rests ultimately on the people.
Trump is the ultimate case study on how to gain power against the establishment in the US, the left would do well to learn his playbook.
They resisted until the real money started rolling in then they fell in line.
I don’t think there’s a figure out there but a big percentage of the GOP that resisted outright got voted out by MAGA. Many of them either left politics or became democrats. Money was more a secondary factor I think; keep in mind that Trump, even in its second term, had a hard time finding funds compared with the democratic establishment. Kamala had a lot more money to campaign with than Trump and still lost.
