He can’t be held personally accountable for abusing his power in this case either, thanks to SCrOTUS basically saying that official presidency acts are above the law.
Er … no. At this point, the presidency can do pretty much whatever it wants. You may be thinking that I am using hyperbole, but I am not. The Supreme Court determined that, as long as the president says, “I’m acting as the president!”, whatever action that follows is excempt from prosecution.
The whole shit show is based on the assumption that the people of the United States wouldn’t elect a dictator, or would at least take action if it turned out that an elected person was in fact a dictator.
Seems to be that neither of those things are true.
There gotta be some kinda check on a president using a pardon when he is personally tied to the case.
