    This is another point that can be used as an argument against Machiavelli’s philosophy. It was well-written, but I’m not sure a prince should trust the advice of a guy his family threw in prison. The Prince might be chock full of intentionally written bad advice for all we know. …such as always take a side to form allies, rather than Sun Tsu’s approach of allowing them to exhaust themselves without interfering.

      That’s at least partially because of Italian philosophy as a whole, picking sides is great when you are the biggest monster on the field like say the Romans but once you aren’t? Well better to bunker down and focus on other things like say trade. Worked great for Denmark, Switzerland, and historically Scotland.
