The rebellion, Sync, is dying.
Maybe it didn’t sell enough. And maybe you’re making more money elsewhere.
That’s cool. We, well, I understand. you’re not in this because you hate free time, you’re in this to make money. I get it.
But if that’s the case, let us know, so we can mourn the death of sync and select another client.
I’ve been using sync since 2019 as my exclusive reddit client, and I paid the 23Eur to remove ads (and to support the dev, as I knew that lemmy was a small community, so I wanted the best possible client back in August), so you could say I’ve been supporting the app since day 1 (day 0 being the date of its release on the 2nd of August, 2023).
I understood the occasional hiccups, or the few times videos didn’t load (Redgifs, I’m looking at you). However, lately there have been a lot of bugs, and it seems like nothing is being done about it. At this point, it is abandoned, and it would be nice to either see “I’m working on it” or “so long and thanks for all the fish”, but silence is just the worst option. That way, we can suck it up and wait if improvements are going to be made, or we can move to the next best app down the list (because I definitely think this is the best app for lemmy, as it was for reddit).
I am hanging on to Sync as long as I can and dread the day it breaks.
I’ve started trying other clients but still prefer Sync the most. This really sucks but I understand these things happen.
I paid for this app but if it does down, I guess that’s the way it goes.
I’ve switched to thunder and not really missing sync tbh Jerboa is a bit too feature poor for me. There are other clients people are liking, deffo try some out!
From what I can gather, Sync was always a side gig rather than a main job, so I don’t think sales is any way a factor.
I’ve been waiting for that lemmy 1.0.0 update to break everything before switching.
I’m OOTL here, why will 0.9.20 break Sync?
I had my version number(s) wrong. It’s the 1.0.0 release that’s supposed to cause problems: https://join-lemmy.org/news/2025-02-03_-_Breaking_Changes_in_Lemmy_1.0
Looks like there’s only 11 of 70 total issues open for the 1.0 milestone https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/milestone/24
Ah ok, thanks - that’s too technical for me, but I appreciate the link anyway 👍
Maybe open source it if it’s truly dead?
