Jimmie “Chris” Duncan walked out of the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center and into the arms of his parents last week after spending the last 27 years on death row.
Seven months ago, a Louisiana district court judge vacated his murder conviction for killing his former girlfriend’s toddler, citing doubts about the evidence used to convict him. The judge granted bail after multiple legal delays, including an unsuccessful request by prosecutors to the Louisiana Supreme Court to stop his release. Now free, Duncan spent Thanksgiving with his family — then celebrated his 57th birthday the next day.
But Duncan’s journey to freedom is far from over. Prosecutors have asked the state Supreme Court to reinstate his death sentence. Duncan’s attorneys declined to make him immediately available for an interview.

It is better that 100 criminals go free, than the execution of an innocent person.
As the saying goes, “if my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a bicycle.”
If he actually did what the state accused him of, then I would be in favor of him spending his life behind bars. But since the ONLY evidence against him is a pair of forensic specialists whose testimonies have been overturned as junk science in 9 different cases already (including the only living one of the two saying he no longer believes in the science he testified about back then), plus the recanted testimony of a jailhouse snitch, then the burden of proof has not been met. There were no witnesses and no other forensic evidence that this wasn’t more than negligence in leaving a 2 year old in a bathtub.
That’s why I have a hard time with the death penalty. A lifetime in jail gives time to find out the state did something wrong (like in this case). Once a person is dead, then we can’t say, “whoopsie.”
What point are you trying to make here? That we should execute people based on feels rather than law? It ain’t perfect, it’s maybe not even good, but it’s logical and can be improved upon if we decide we want to. It’s the best we got
I thought it was obvious. If he did it, we shouldn’t be supporting him.
Feel how you want about the death penalty, but the truth is the truth regardless of what the law says.
Anyone who gets away with a heinous crime, you know, gets away with a heinous crime.
“what if I change the material facts of the case that lead to this”
What are you talking about?
Don’t worry about it.
I can tell you are in the latter category.
I can tell you’re a fucking idiot.
Your just the “yet you participate in society, I am so smart”.
Go troll somewhere else if you have nothing but garbage nonsense.
Keep meming, bro.
