I now officially have no idea what’s going on. The logic is getting a little stretched, tho.
Idk I think I’m leaning Agents of Shield style where the humans are partaking in some part of an alien species. When Carol looks under the tarp it seems like a big revelation in support to her theories. So my guess is that its an alien carcass that the We are using to harness it’s telepathic abilities. I know it was explained as a “virus” in the first episode but I think other wise.
…but we can see all the human bodies under the tarps before she looks…
Hmm its very hard to make out what’s under the tarps but it could be human bodies. I think Carol would have smelt decaying corpses and had a bigger reaction to death when she reveals it but I guess we’ll have to wait for the next episode to find out
I was going to tell you to go back and look…but I went back and looked to make sure…on a bigger screen…and I was wrong: It wasn’t as clear they were bodies…so yeah, we’ll wait and see!

The first episode showed the Others collecting the dead. A few episodes later it’s revealed that they don’t kill, but are perfectly fine consuming already dead organisms.
Helen’s corpse is a recurring reminder up until this episode to the point that Carol has to bury it—an act we never see the Others do, so the popular theory right now is that the bodies are probably consumed. I keep coming back to my Aquamation theory because of the result of the contents in the milk cartons and now also because of the previous energy conservation efforts. Aquamation takes a fair bit of energy to heat the bodies that get processed, and doing it to nearly a billion people would be no small feat.
The powdered substance found in the dog food bags are likely crushed bones (basically calcium) or crystallized aquamated people used to fertilize or be consumed.
Of course Carol is shocked to see something, but we’ll need to wait and see what exactly.
Whether or not I’m onto something it’s an illuminating look into the funerary world and the alternatives that exist to embalming and a casket.
On reddit there’s an interesting theory, that it’s actually purified dehydrated brains the Others are drinking.

It was related to Carol’s comment about the substance having a Ph of 7.1. Brains having a a Ph of 7.2.
This kind of makes it an interesting twist, as it means that this is effectively a zombie flick. “… braaaaaaains”
It also opens up some speculation that “the cure” is to simply “stop drinking the brain juice” and they’ll lose their ability to join the hive.

However, given the strong reaction the Others had when Carol tried to separate one of their people… it won’t be easy.

Oh yeah…I thought it was obvious that we’re supposed to believe they’re eating the bodies. It was telegraphed by the canines trying to dig up the corpse (provided animals have a basic link to Pluribus).
I assumed the “something” she saw was a body…maybe even one she recognized, considering the room was full of bodies lol.
I’m more at the stage “where are we going with this?”…doesn’t seem like anywhere. Basic sci fi tropes, so far…even if extremely well executed. It bothers me that she didn’t just ask what the liquid was for…seems like a pretty huge plot convenience to delay exposition.

Ask who? The hive are currently ghosting her. In previous episodes she just thought it was some generic drink.
Just ask in a voicemail. They already know she knows about it and is trying to figure it out…they’d either answer or they wouldn’t.
Like…so much was made from a non-answer before…so she’d care at least how they answered the question, even if they didn’t answer it directly. Of they’d give her a nuke…maybe they’d give her the recipe for the olive oil. Or she’d get ghosted…and be no further behind.
Its not ruining the show or anything…it’s just a Jenga piece pulled out. Know what I mean?

It’s quality enough to hang in. I managed to deal with Severance. I’ll tolerate this some more.
AppleTV and slow ass shows. Respecting the filmmaker? Sure. But a movie doesn’t always need to be 10 hours long

This was just the first episode that had me scratching my head as to what she will and won’t ask Pluribus to do. She’ll have them transcribe her plan to “cure” them…but won’t just ask what the liquid is? It approaches a plot hole…even if it’s super interesting.
ETA: The last bit of Severance was definitely a stretch…reminded me of Maybe from Arrested Development: “Nobody will know what the hell happened, but they’ll say they like it because they don’t want to sound stupid.”

…as I was saying in another thread, it’s just a little annoying that she didn’t bother to ask what the oil was for…an artificial delay for suspense. It doesn’t ruin the show…but feels contrived.
I’m having hard time watching Severance does it get better?
