I was on Ubuntu for like 3 years, a few days ago switched to Debian. I installed Ubuntu because I thought it would “easy” and “just works” and all that. I’m not very computery person, I know some basics but I’m mostly confused about everything.

What I’ve learned from using Debian is I should have just gone for that from the beginning. Its not that different and somehow it feels nicer and more capable. If your Ubuntu keeps giving you grief, try Debian or whatever you think looks nice.

In what way, specifically, are Chinese EV trucks better than European ones?

Yeah, I’ll admit it was a one sided take, I’m a truck driver so I look at it from a drivers point of view. If I have to sit in a cab for 9-11 hours per day and then sleep in it, I’ll always choose a Euro model.

And the fact is, Chinese products will always be cheaper than European ones, manufacturing costs are wildly different between the places. Euro EV trucks have excellent tech in them, maybe the actual manufacturing pace is lagging behind thats true. But even if we had switched to making only EV trucks, the price difference would still be there.

This is not about innovation. Its about price. European trucks are so much better with driver comfort and driver aids than anything I’ve seen. I go to 2-3 truck shows per year and all the non-EU stuff is still a bit “nasty” at best and horrible at worst in quality and comfort.

The problem is, China doesn’t have the same workers protection and benefits to deal with as EU companies. EU makes better products but at a higher price. I hope we don’t go to the American way of big trucking companies not giving a shit about the comfort and welfare of their drivers. Maybe the EU needs to take some action and subsidize EU made truck purchases or something, I don’t know. The attraction of saving tens of thousands of €'s on a single truck purchase is probably very tempting to the trucking companies, even if the real cost is drivers being miserable.

Slight problem with your plan, it’s rather difficult to differentiate a persons nationality or their allegiance from a drone.

Full disclosure: weed helped me out of alcohol. I went from heavy drinking to smoking, then that also got a bit out of hand, spent a few years daily smoking. Then I decided to see if I can get off of that as well, had a 6 month break and was fine. Since then I’ve smoked every now and then, sometimes more, sometimes less. Currently haven’t smoked anything since January 6th.

Only real addiction I have is coffee and bad jokes.

Probably my last.fm account, was made in 2005. Everything else before that has died a death, either because I changed services like with gmail or because the service is no more, like with ICQ etc.

I recently started using IRC again but had a almost 2 decade long break between so I don’t think that counts.

I started drinking age 14. At first it was like 3 beers per friday. By age 16 I was drinking a 12-pack per firday/saturday. By age 18 I was drinking a few beers every day and got properly pissed on the weekends, about 20-24 beers and some vodka. By age 22 I was pretty much an alcoholic. By age 25 I decided I either stop or die under a bridge with my own shit in my pants. Have been alcohol free now for… I dunno, 13-15 years or something like that.

Saying this is the start of a World War is such a USA-centric brain dead take. Ukraine war is closer to World War than anything that might happen in Iran will ever be.
