NBC News exit polls from Tuesday’s elections showed voters are deeply worried about pocketbook issues and the direction of the country.

Ahead of Tuesday’s elections, Donald Trump assured Americans that prices are coming down, the economy is picking up and the nation is flourishing in ways that make it the world’s envy.

Voters don’t seem to be buying it.

Democrats swept key races, as exit polls depicted an electorate gripped by fears that the U.S. is careening in the wrong direction, far from Trump’s glowing portrait of a nation ascendant.

It’s also interesting when they say “I don’t watch the news or keep up with politics, it all doesn’t matter anyway” only to then complain when it does start to matter for them. I haven’t heard them about the whole healthcare price increases shenanigans yet but I’m sure it’ll hit them sometime soon. I agree that the news can be depressing at times but overall it’s better to be occassionally depressed on up-to-date on things then to be ignorant. I saw a video that perfectly illustrated this the other day, this one about Bernie Sanders visiting Virginia. So many people there were saying “Now that I’m actually listening to him he’s a really nice and sensible guy”. Drives me insane.

Healthcare is a perfect case in point: While most independents are blaming republicans for the shutdown, republican voters are still blaming democrats despite democrats trying to keep healthcare costs from rising. Because their version of “not paying attention to politics” is uncritically accepting Fox News’ narrative that democrats want to give illegal immigrants free healthcare.

They won’t even critically engage until they are personally harmed, and by then, they have already sunk-cost-fallacied themselves into blaming democrats and just need Fox to update the new reason for the blame.
