He was pretty good in Lord of war. Ironically also Nick cages best acting. Now that I think of it, whoever directed that should get a lifetime achievement award for getting good acting out of the two of them. But yeah Jared Leto sucks and I’m fairly positive there’s some fucked up armie hammer kind of shit going on behind the scenes as well.

I can’t recall Leto ever being the main draw for any film, ever carrying a franchise, or even being in more than one film in any franchise (aside from two bit parts as the Joker). That’s like saying Robert Patrick carried the Terminator franchise despite only being in T2.
It’s always seemed to be the opposite. People excited for the film, and then they see he’s got a part and they say “oh no…” To be fair, I think he did well in Bladerunner:2049, but he was just playing himself, I think.
I thought he was good in House of Guuci as a cousin who is only on screen for like 20 minutes of the movie. His other roles leading up to Tron Ares I have not liked one bit

This franchise talk is just insanity. 1 of 3 Tron films, 2 of however many now-canceled DC films amounting to like a minute of screentime in total, 1 of 2 Blade Runner films…that’s not the resume of a franchise-carrying actor. That’s barely the resume of an actor who’s been in franchises.

But… Why? The only role I can remember him ever being decent in was fight club and American psycho, and that’s mainly because it was enjoyable to watch Jared Leto get his shit rocked. Every movie I can think of that he’s been in a lead role has bombed.

Gird your loins and try “Requiem for a Dream”. It’s a phenomenal heartbreak of a movie and I genuinely think Leto was fantastic in it. It’s a flick I think everyone oughta watch at least once.

I really wanted to like it. I did enjoy Afterlife. Was a little iffy on them using kids but whatever. Their heart was in the right place.
I thought Afterlife was solid, Actors were good, plot was believable, cameos were great. The reboot just tried too hard to be funny where it wasn’t, and felt more like those SNL skits in years where it didn’t click. I’s a great example of why reboots should be a rare thing driven by a working plot and not done just because someone thinks it’s a good idea or for a cash grab on a franchise.
I’m a pretty outspoken feminist but it was obvious from the trailers alone that the entire hook of the movie was “this time with WOMEN!”

I was really annoyed that Feige decided to reboot Ghostbusters rather than continuing it. It would be easy to do a third. movie with that cast.

I meant a sequel with the women who did the reboot. They are all very funny I just thought the reboot rather than a sequel was boneheaded.

The TRON franchise has always been in the wrong hands. Disney is doing the bare minimum with it, to not lose the license.
The first movie was great, TRON 2.0 is one of the best games ever made and I also liked TRON: Uprising (which was promptly cancelled after one season, of course). Everything else is just mid or mediocre.
I have a friend who likes to review movies in a similar style to Hideo Kojima, i.e. He refuses to be disparaging but the worse a movie is, the less he says. His review of Tron: Arse was, “It has a nice bassy soundtrack”.

Also, for Tron Ares specifically, I know that I am instantly turned off the moment a franchise that mostly exists in another world/dimension/etc. decides it’s going to do something in “the real world.” I know Tron isn’t as bright-line as other IPs, but the appeal is still largely in seeing how the inside of computers and networks is anthropomorphized and analogized into an alternate universe that comments on contemporary anxieties about technology. Nobody was asking to see light cycles and recognizers in LA.
This was what turned me away from it, too. I loved the first one as a kid. I enjoyed most of the sequel(?) as an old person.
There’s a shit-ton more they could do in that universe, a place that seems to offer escapism from reality but comes burdened with its own conflicts that parallel ours — conflicts that are solved, largely, if I’m remembering right, through self-sacrifice in defiance of money-grubbing capitalists and power-hungry rogue-program autocrats.
There’s a lot of hope in the two movies; I didn’t get that feeling from the trailers for this one and will probably be skipping it.
It’s not all his fault - the script and plot were dire. Nobody came out of this looking good except for the music, visuals, Jeff Bridges and Depeche Mode.
None of that impacts opening weekend. That impacts the follow on weekends.
I might be in the minority, but, I enjoyed Ares.
They reveal the character in the red/orange hue and I thought it might be ok with him being the bad guy.
Then I see he’s producing it and it was pretty easy to see he was going to turn face and this was going to be the movie, that’s when I said this isn’t going to be good. However, his flat acting played pretty well into an AI that’s learning.
All of the Tron movies require a major suspension of disbelief, none of them are going to win awards for plot, but that’s not what these movies are for. When I see a Tron movie I just want to be entertained with pretty visuals and a solid soundtrack. If I want a movie that’s going to challenge my view of the world I’m going to go somewhere else.
They have all been very plot light. Tron has always been great, interesting visuals, and stunts.
That, and very entertaining music. I felt that the second’s soundtrack overshadowed the actual movie by far.
I thought it was fine. I was surprised to find the stakes were interesting since I was just there for the visuals and the soundtrack. The visuals were cool, especially in 3D, but I only really noticed the soundtrack a few times. The jet ski scene was probably the coolest part of the movie.
