Coming from the post about Ukrainian knives I would like to have a post similar to the Jeans post the other day.

Outdoor knives are more of a niche topic, but it plays well with some of my outdoor hobbies and knowing your options is also fun, so please keep em coming.

And remember to check out your local craftspeople who might have no website or any internet presence at all! At least in Finland, in bigger cities there is a yearly knife making class that usually gets filled and ends in exhibition, some alumni end up quite good. And there is usually local smith who knows what they are doing.

One more reason for me to visit Helsinki more than once a year. When is it usually? And are classes given also in English?

No idea what happens in Helsinki. In Kuopio they are in Finnish only and that’s typical, but Helsinki is a unique place.

In the spirit of Britishness, there’s also: https://sheffieldknives.co.uk/

I’m not an “outdoor knives” sort of guy, but I have and greatly enjoy a couple of kitchen knives from them, and they have a full range of outdoor knives that…er…look like knives to me.

Thanks for sharing. I imagine you sitting in the forest, chopping some wood with the kitchen knife humming a melody fitting for “I’m not an outdoor knives sort of guy” 😂

In France there is also “le Thiers”. It’s not a company but more a kind of “guild” of knife makers making knives together following strict specifications.

All the knives and components are made in France.
