I never thought I’d see fear spread so far and fast. Next year’s midterm elections are now crucial for the Democratic party – and for democrats everywhere, says Guardian columnist Timothy Garton Ash
he already installed a election denier to head the elections infrastructure nationwide. also there s a subset of people that dont register on purpose, because they dont want to be called for Jury duty, which can be potentially financially devestating for people.
You have to register to be able to vote. If you register, you might have to work in court, losing out on pay. You don’t get any compensation for that. The lost pay can ruin you financially.
Some states dont pay you on the first, day even if they do its like less 5-15/day if your selected. and federal court might pay you more , and this is seperate from your cities JD, so some people have gotten both JD summons in one year. and Commuting by car is partially reimbursed, lol. i do hear alot of people skip JD, but most are dismissed anyways.
Most middle class jobs tend to give paid leave for jury duty. If you can’t get that or can’t afford the lost income, you can usually get out of having to appear because of that.
Oh yea, here in cali they get you first by voter rolls(registration) and driver license, or state ID. im not sure about utility bills, or other kinds id, but thats what i heard. aLSO, noticed those that were in JD before is more likely to be called in the future. thats why i alot of people think its not-partially random.
and also how recently you voted too. note, it almost happen in 6months of voting in any election, while people i know that dint vote, or registered gets one every few years of JD. and some people never get Summons at all. like if you go to any other "fourm/site talking about JD.

You get paid about 3.50 and hour in my state.
As in, 28 per day of work missed? Or even less than that
In my county we get paid 35 dollars per day for jury duty.
in cali its 15/day if your in JD(in person)

So the poor might not be able to participate in the judicial process?
Depends on the state. In CT you can get called for jury duty of you have a driver’s license, no voter registration required
