That’s been a thing for generations now. To the point that as far back as the 00s, a Canadian flag on your backpack was a sure sign of being an American tourist/hiker/etc., but if said backpack was a specific brand made & sold exclusively in Canada, it was generally assumed you were a local. (or, at least an informed, savvy traveler)
