In Germany's western city of Gelsenkirchen, the far-right AfD did well in this year's general election. Now the party hopes to win in local elections there. It's a nightmare scenario for many.
I’m pretty sure it’s just bigotry. Anecdotally, I’ve never talked to a conservative who supports the likes of AfD for “economical reasons” who also over the course of conversation didn’t start casually saying the most racist shit imaginable. And given that bigotry is the only one issue that AfD is actually honest about, I don’t really believe their economic concerns, even as misguided as they are.
