The fact that I’m ringing rather than texting would be a fairly big signal, I would’ve thought.

I’m confused. Wouldn’t your family know you aren’t fine when the kidnappers demand your ransom? What is the kidnapper’s motivation here?

could you mean: kidnappers force you to ring relatives or loved ones and tell them you’re fine?

I’d start talking about some things that don’t exist or never happened. That should clue your loved ones in that something’s wrong. Either that, or I’m having a stroke lol.

My SO and I have a code phrase actually, for when the person we’re talking about is walking up right behind us and we need to change the subject. So if I’m talking to my SO, I’d probably throw that in too

If I’ve already been kidnapped, why would I need to ring the kidnappers?

I would just emphasize that I am fine. I would never do that, my mum would know something is up.

You should have agreed upon a codeword beforehand.

I’m going to rant about how inclusivity has gone too far, and neurodiversity is just a name for laziness

We have a special word that’s a word we would never normally say unless we were quoting Shakespeare.
