I’m working toward a specific vision of a final drawing here. In the past I would grab art supplies and just go until I was done or hit a roadblock. I never did research or more than a two cubic centimeter thumbnail before committing to what would be the final draft. This time I’m mapping out each element, such as the wagon study you see here, before starting on the final piece.
In this case I learned I really need to work on drawing again wheels from a foreshortened perspective. Because this drawing sucks.
Yeah, box out a rectangle for the wheel first, because it will be elliptical rather than round. Rectangle sides will go straight up and down, and top and bottom edges will follow the plane of your wagon. Ellipse will touch the 4 sides.
