The family tried to appeal the decision, but their former attorney filed the paperwork too late, Avedissian said. A judge refused to consider the appeal, dismissing it last December.

The attorney should be punished for failing clients like this.

Not that submitting the appeal had any guarantees of success but it’s better than being deported because some prick was being lazy.
