Village RoadShow and WB produced and co-owned dozens of films over the years but their relationship soured in early 2022 after the release of the latest Matrix film - The Matrix Resurrections - on the streaming platform HBO Max.

I didn’t even know this had been released, so I guess they failed hard.

I don’t have a definitive source, but I’ve heard that was intentional. WB said they were gonna do it with or without the Wachowskis. So they agreed to do it and torpedoed it so WB would stop trying to mess with the franchise.

The reviews on it - both critics and public - seem yo say it was like a B-.

I haven’t seen it and no one I’ve asked has seen it, and I don’t plan to ever see it. Bit it doesn’t sound like it was quite that bad.

I almost felt insulted after watching it. I’m somsone who enjoyed all 3 ones before it. I’m not sure if rumor that it sucked on purpose to prevent WB from touching the franchise is true, but I was so disappointment that it feels more likely than that was really the best they could do.
