While I hope this will change soon, if you need a smartphone, you’re generally stuck with either iOS or Android. /e/OS is almost always possible these days but it still relies on Android source code.

What credit card companies are not owned and/or controlled by the Americans?
Obviously we need better options, but until those exist what “better way” do you suggest?

Well, yeah, cash is king - at least for in person.
Though there are some places local to me that have gone 100% cashless. Which is annoying.
