Why are they doing this? Is are they finally standing up with consistent values on at least this one idea? Are they making a firm stand that the constitution is beyond partisan politics? I don’t know… it may be something else.
Ironically, thanks to the 2A loonies we don’t really need them anymore. Can even rifle a barrel liner using a car battery and a bucket of salt water at this point.
I’m pretty sure you can find videos on it on YouTube, but it essentially boils down to creating an array of copper wire in the shape of the rifling, inserting that into the barrel liner, then putting the whole thing into the bucket and hooking the wire up to electricity. This then slowly etches the rifling into the liner through electrolysis.
The NRA is frantically running the numbers to see what will increase public fear, and thus sales figures for the gun companies, the most.

The NRA released a statement only hours after the shooting, in it they blame Governor Tim Walz for his “radical extremist protests”.
