The 14th Amendment grants citizenship, due process, and equal protection to all persons born or naturalized in the U.S., overturning Dred Scott and ensuring rights for formerly enslaved people, while the 15th Amendment prohibits denying the right to vote based on race, color, or previous servitude, granting Black men suffrage after the Civil War. Both are key Reconstruction Amendments designed to secure rights for African Americans.

Conservatives have never respected the Reconstruction amendments because they coerced the slaveholding States to adopt them. Worse still, “disastrous” SCOTUS rulings like Row, Obergefell, Brown v. Board, basically anything affirming equality all use these Amendments’ reasoning.

It’s ironic that a conservative majority of all Catholics, one woman, and a black guy are trying to go back to an era where all of them could be legally discriminated against. Hell, before the Reconstruction amendments, Thomas would be ineligible for citizenship.

One would think. But if you read the article, these amendments have a history of being “interpreted” away. New laws were passed to shore them up. But the new laws are being “interpreted” away again.

When you have 2 of the 3 branches and the 3rd branch refuses to protect it’s own power then that’s effectively a 2/3 vote.

        That’s not how it works.

        It’s:

        3/4 of the states

        2/3 of the house

        2/3 of the Senate

And luckily exactly 0% of the president.

In other words you need 3 miracles in a row.

In other other words, unless there’s an alien invasion (not that kind) it ain’t happenin’

Laws that are unenforced are not laws, they are traditions.

Laws that are enforced are laws, even if they aren’t written down. Trump got push back in his first term, from all three branches of government. Now? If everyone just agrees he can speak laws into existence, then he can.

God forbid the word “framers” also included the badasses who abolished slavery and kicked white supremacy in the teeth.
