The majority of Atheists and Scientists voted Kamala Harris.

The majority of Christian evangelicals voted Donald Trump.

Now, he is humiliating atheists and scientists by making massive cuts in research funding. He is doing this on purpose. His goal is to humiliate them because they voted Kamala.

I don’t think the anti-science is about religion… That’s from the fascist playbook. I mean for once fascists are opposed to modernity and everything that came with, and after, the Age of Enlightenment. Secondly they want the masses to be stupid and uneducated followers. So science is amongst the first things that have to go. Religion is a minor factor here. They’re somewhat similar, but not the same. Trump likely doesn’t believe in their old book. And he does this very thing because it’s necessary to establish fascism. He’d need to do it even if it somehow made him lose support by religious people. I think that’s more reflected in other Project 2025 stuff, like banning pornography…

I agree with all of that, but I think in addition to contradiction with their beliefs, religious leaders are also often anti-science for the same reason fascists are.

That’s why the instill the fear that your kids are going to go to college and then question their religion.

The ‘funny’ thing is that it’s a direct path to failure. What made the USA so great in the mid 20th century was the massive investment in science and technological progress. They even made movies where scientists were the heroes.

This is the heel draggers trying to wrest control because they don’t want to be left behind by progress—ignoring that they’ll be pulled forward with the rest of society. Religion is a big part of that because that’s how a great many people make sense of the world. The science and theory are beyond their ken so they feel like they have no control as things progress.

Look at what Thiel is doing. He’s trying to mix religion with AI and information technology not because he believes in it but to get the religiously-bound minds to back his machinations.

You’re right that fascism wants less education but it also wants technological superiority. Nazi Germany backed science that built the V2 and more. The overall reduction in scientific progress has roots in conservative resistance to social change. Religion is a big part of that.
