The vast majority of American movie and tv just use 18 regardless, to avoid any legal issues
Which is why a lot of Americans, even ones living in states where it’s 16, think it is 18 in all states.

Oh it gets worse. This change is just the most recent in a series of states updating their laws since 2017. Because a study was released that showed almost 200,000 child marriages in the US between 2000 and 2015. And over the next three years years another ~100,000 happened.
And while it’s important to remember that a 17 year old marrying an 18 year old is technically child marriage, and 16-17 year olds girls who marying men who were over 18 or older but less than 29 is over 90% of those statistics. There were dozens between girls who were 12-14 and men who were 40+, some were 60+. And that it is still legal in several states if certain criteria are met.

Stop bringing up facts and figures, I have wordly experience!

I’m guessing you’ve never look inside a physical newspaper before.
It’s part of a series of articles called “Kindness of strangers”. Specifically highlighting interesting events where someone was helped and that changed their outlook on life, but isn’t some major event.
Here are some of the other headlines:
a woman lay on the road beside me, holding my hand until the ambulance came
I pulled over in hysterics – then a passing driver saved me from the spider
when my cat died, my dance class pooled their money for a thoughtful gift
I don’t want to go all conspiracy theorist, but there seems to have been a serious push to villify Signal over the last year or so.
If Musk fully crosses Trump, I wouldn’t be surprised if suddenly starlink and spacex were labeled as threats to national security.
Don’t you remember learning about Germany in school? According to history disabled people are going to the camps as well. And RFK has already annonced that they’re going on a list. Then it’s non-straight people. And then they came for…
Sadly, a bunch of things people buy are American owned but sold under a more local brand name, especially food or snack items, but also many other things.
For example: A scary amount of Europeans don’t know that Mondelēz International is an American company. It was started by Kraft, famous for their “processed cheese product”. And they own brands like Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone, Marabou/Freia, etc.
Coca-Cola also own a lot of “local” flavoured drinks.
I’m VERY glad they don’t have anyone as efficient as Goebbles. Or the “Ministry for Public Enlightenment” would already be in full swing making propaganda films.
I am surprised to not see used much more yet
It’s because a huge amount of people in leadership positions around the world still think they can just keep their head down and pretend nothing bad is happening.
I know people love to repeat that on social media, but he did technically win the popular vote.

At the end of the day they’re just selfish.
My favorite example is the “Free Town Project”, where a bunch of libertarians from all over the country tried to take over a town in New Hampshire. After they managed to force through cuts to everything from firefighting to street lights, they had a single police officer left. And he couldn’t respond to any calls, because his cruiser was broken and they refused to pay for repairs so crime rose and sex offenders started moving there.
Then came the bears.
They didn’t pay for any sort of forest ranger and the cop couldn’t respond. So bears started getting close and some people spent years feeding them, while their neighbors walked around armed at all times and would shoot at bears on-sight. Which led to the first black bear on human attack in the state for over a century, where a woman was attacked inside her own home. And shortly after two other attacks happened in nearby towns. So the people went into the forest one night and allegedly shot and killed a dozen bears, which didn’t help. Some people suggested the city put bear protection on the trash cans, but it was not passed and was called “government overreach” by others.
So the freedom loving libertarians who moved to a town without zoning laws to live in improvised housing and roam free without laws, ended up having to put up big fences and walls around their homes to keep the bears out.
Yes…?
It was literally NEVER about the money being spent by the government. Anyone who actually believed that is by dictionary definition, dumb.
At this point, if a news outlet or politician refuse to call it what it is, I assume they actually approve.
So far it’s most of them across the world.
Yeah that’s how it goes.
Just earlier today I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying figure out an issue where the classic “debug print” didn’t give the correct value. And as is often the case, I had forgot to change print to the new test variable.
Jason, is that you?
