I haven’t had contact with my family for a while and I’m so much better for it.This Thanksgiving we slept in half the day, played music, napped some more and read.

Someone still protests occasionally regarding how I cut my family off, but she’s still too soft on conservatives. You have to understand that nothing you say will change their minds in most cases. If you could have changed them or made them see reason then you would have done so a long time ago. Yes they are misguided, yes the system is at fault for the creation of this cult, but there isn’t anything you can do either. Put your own mental health first.

  • Not particularly.

There was so much to deal with back then. So many different rule sets to follow, so many differences in each community, so many sign-up and on-boarding processes for posting or contributing each.

I miss the internet itself from that time period, and I realize that there is a certain community feel that is missing due to how congregated the current internet is, but I still don’t really miss forums specifically all that much.

  • Times have changed since then though. Modern public infrastructure is a lot better suited for troop movements compared to the 1700s and 1800s when there was plenty of revolutions occurring across Europe. People seem to have this idea that they’re going to take out their guns and start guerrilla warfaring massive groups of armed troops.

I do believe we need to be more aggressive, more proactive, but there is a good chance that it might be expected. It’s entirely possible that they’re just waiting for an excuse to start gunning people down in the streets.

  • World Wars are for the war machine fanatics. That’s really where it starts for a lot of people.

The American Civil War is mostly where you’ll find revisionists and southerners, but there are also true enthusiasts. There’s a lot of discussion in regards to the Mexican-American War priming the country for the Civil War, or discussion regarding the politics of the time and it’s impact on the course of the war.

Falklands? I want to assume that if you’re British then you’d like to forget this ever happened. Although the war did result in the disposal of a dictator and brought a country into the folds of democracy even if it had to occur over what is essentially a colonial territory dispute.

French and Indian War? I’d just say you enjoy colonial era history? Or you’re currently living in the area that it occurred.
