I just finished watching it this morning, I liked it. I did not go into it expecting serious sci fi, so my experience was different than yours.

It’s a light snack, nothing heavy to chew on. Good for a few laughs.

As someone who has been annoyed at the cultural swirl around the twilight movies, I have to admit Robert Pattinson unpleasantly dying a bunch of times enhanced my enjoyment of the movie a little bit.

Yes it was trope-y, but I also wasn’t setting the bar very high either. The obvious political caricature in space was too on the nose but I otherwise enjoyed seeing ruffalo step outside of playing that big green dude.

This felt like it was influenced by a coen brothers movie or the fifth element, a type of movie I enjoy. Tropey, but fun.

For me the downside was the trump in space was painted on way too thick, even if he lost it would have been too much.
