Lol when I saw the title of this Lemmy post I thought to myself “I bet it’s the two usual suspects voting no” and lo and behold. Plus their third.

I mean the vote seems performative afaict, my country is in favour despite being infamous for torturing political dissidents and executes hundreds of people for negligible crimes yearly .

But the fact the US, israel and (for obvious reasons ;)) now Argentina voted no on this is so comically evil lmao, not even lying just flat out admitting it

Hey, Argentina being the US’s lapdog is a mostly a newish development. Give them a few years to hang Milei before we put them in that group for good.

unfortunately, it’s going to take a while since his approval rating is high rn.

it would have taken a serious dip if trump hadn’t given him a $20billion loan.

i wouldn’t doubt it since he already won re-election; it’s mind boggling to me how well such antics work on the masses.

Honestly that will happen with any Latam country every few years, every now and then a very boot licking government will rule in some Latin American country.

Well that’s easily explained. The CIA doesn’t technically have a completely unlimited budget and resources, so they have to shift their priorities around the continent occasionally. It might be random, I wonder if they have a big wheel they spin, like on “Wheel of Fortune” or if it’s more like the big wheel on the “Price is Right”. The big prize for this year is to topple the government and install a new puppet regime in… spins big wheel Venezuela, again! *everyone claps*

it happens every single time a leader is successful in steering its economy towards self sufficiency despite the road blocks put in place by the local american back oligarchy like it’s happening in mexico right now.

It’s a bit like asking: How many of you are currently torturing people or planning to do so in the near future? Even if you aren’t actively participating in such heinous crimes, but your best buddy is, and you don’t want to sever the relationship, that counts as well.

It’s not even that, a good chunk of the countries who voted yes probably are currently torturing people or planning to do so in the near future. Ffs North Korea voted yes. These are just the countries self righteous enough to think torturing is a good thing and are willing to go on record to say so.

Even if you aren’t actively participating in such heinous crimes

We know at least 2 of those 3 do it. Then you have Argentina who really wants to be part of the group chat
