Decent movie, but I feel like half the songs are so diconnected from the actual story.
Like the duet with Rumi and the demon-dude the first time they actually meet. They’re all about having found their soulmate and shit, without knowing anything about eachother, and afterwards they’re back to talking to eachother like they’re complete strangers. I know this isn’t exactly new in these kinds of movies, Disney has done it for about 60 years, but at least in other movies they actually seem to give half a shit about eachother after singing about their hidden love for this total stranger.
It just seems like most of the song were written before the story was written, to make sure the songs will carry the movie to success, instead of making something that actually makes sense.
Now here’s what I wanna know.
The genre is called K-Pop.
If you look at the title, it actually says “K-Pop” in the title/logo. It’s attached to the P, but there’s clearly a dash there.
The movie’s working title was “K-Pop: Demon Hunters” (note the added colon).
Yet nobody leaves the hyphen in, and the Wikipedia article on the film uses the hyphen in every instance of “K-Pop” except for in the title.
Maybe it’s just me but that’s fucking weird.
Still love the movie, and the soundtrack; hell, I got a sticker of them on my water bottle. Just kinda weird that they do the name like that and like nobody’s asking. Maybe I’m weird for asking. Oh well. Never said I wasn’t.

Why wouldn’t it be eligible, it’s a film after all.
Yes it’s also a music video but so is pretty much every Disney princess movie.
For a movie to be eligible, it needs to have a theatrical run that includes being in a number of theaters for a specific length of time. Since the film was strictly on a streaming platform it initially didn’t qualify so Netflix released it in a handful of theaters to meet the minimum requirements.
Sounds like they need to update that rule.

In my experience, 9/10 times the people wanting to “protect” children by taking away their freedom to self-determination are actually the ones hurting the children the most.
I thought I grew up conservative, but man, I think my childhood was nothing like yours.

And I’m pretty sure exposure to K-Pop Demon Hunters would’ve helped their drug and sex habits, not exacerbated them. The kids that weren’t allowed to watch TV were wild.

Yeah I think short skirts and outfits that show midriff are slutty outfits. I’m not saying that children are, but when that much skin on a child is showing its an issue because there are people that do want to see that. I get that K-pop stars often dress slutty, but there was no need for that in a pg rated film.
Honestly parents need to do a better job at screening what their children watch and not just sit them infront of a full length movie because it’s a new PG rated film on netflix. Parents are to blame for how their 7 year old dresses ultimately. But I think it would have been nice it the outfits used in the film were picked with the idea that young children would be emulating it.

As someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s. This was very normal attire. Different cultures also have different norms.
If you can’t see an animated kids show and not get moist you might want to look in the mirror, because that kind of thinking is not normal.

To be fair, the link does go to a store page that shows a girl of about 7 or 8 in a short skirt and a long-sleeved halter top like outfit with exposed midriff, pretty much exactly what you’d expect if you’ve seen the movie.
Also to be fair, there is a second option with shorts instead of a skirt.
Nothing you wouldn’t see in clothing catalogues (showing my age here) but still kinda creepy. But, I have a young niece about that age who loves KPDH, so it’s not an unusual thing to have in my browser history. So I’m not worried. But that person isn’t entirely wrong in being weirded out by the images there.
That link doesn’t even work outside the United States. So this seems to be a 100% your problem issue. It’s not the studio that’s pushing this it’s US manufacturers. Assuming that anyone other than you even thinks it is a problem.
Us don’t have manufacturing. But yeah you’re right that this is not officially licensed and stuff. The real blame is on the parents letting their children watch and then wear things like this.
The US for sure have a sexualization of little girls issue. It reminds me a lot of the cuties controversy that happened a bit ago with the little girl beauty pagents.
I still think they should have tried to get a pg-13 rating and just leaned into it more. I mean, maybe their writing would have been considered lacking if they went for an older demographic but that’s a different thing.
