That garden sounds pretty good. A lot of people can’t really help themselves like this though, because they live in city houses or apartments without land, and/or they’re working long hours and don’t have the time.
Yeah I agree.
I was already doing this for fun before the 2024 election. It suddenly got more practical than I’d like. I originally started it to stock a small free pantry, and now it’s stocking my own.
It’s also why I’m expanding it, because I expect even worse times ahead. If you can, I’d start one, because it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I’m on an urban lot that’s like 1/7 an acre. I just get full sun on nearly all of it, except what’s shaded by the house. (More than 4/5ths of it). Part of the reason I planted the trees was to shade the house. It came with 0 trees, now there are 9.
Most of my neighbors couldn’t replicate this garden even if they wanted to because they don’t get nearly the same full sun coverage. An east west road deadends into my yard, leading me to get morning sun hours earlier than my neighbors, and they have mature trees shading most of thier lots.
