The amount of marketing I’ve seen for this show, as well a the reviews being so front and center, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I have zero faith in Apple after what they did to Foundation, so maybe I’m jaded, but I’m not rushing to watch this one. All of this feels a little bought and paid for.
Foundation was the first sci-fi I remember reading but I don’t understand what people want when they ask for a faithful adaptation. The individual characters weren’t especially well written, the dialog is very rooted in the 50s/60s that Asimov was writing in and the constant reference to atomics was also a function of the time.
To me Foundation is about grand space opera and the rise and fall of empires. I think the TV show captures that pretty well. The narrative hacks to introduce recurring characters across the seasons never really bothered me. The inventions and embellishments of the “lore” basically modernise the story and that is fine.
Yeah, and JJ Abrams was supposed to be the second coming, and look where that got us. I don’t have faith in directors based on their credentials any more.
I dunno man, I don’t think it’s marketing so much as it is just hype. Breaking bad knocked it out the park for over a decade, of course everyone’s gonna be tuned in to Vince Gilligan’s next work

Foundation, despite being pretty unfaithful improved each season.
Also even ignoring Foundation, apple has good credentials in sci-fi/mystery shows.

Idk, I think season 2 was stronger than season 3.
Ironically it works better when focused on Empire than the actual Foundation story, which is why season 2 was so good.
Yeah you can argue S02 is stronger than S03. But both are better than S01.
Counterpoint: Vince Gilligan
