The PeerTube instance I’ve been using for a long time now is basically closing down all but some users. I understand because they have 1.4TB of videos there. I need a suggestion for re-uploading and uploads for the future.

I like to upload in the highest quality I can, so I understand why I am a problem user. Anyway - if anyone has a suggestion for a PeerTube instance with a large upload allotment please let me know. I don’t want to have to go to YouTube.

I’m kind of desperate here. All of my videos are going to stop being hosted, and attempts to contact the admins have failed (mostly because I’m bad at contacting people on the Fediverse from outside the platform I’m using). The instance in question is https://peertube.otakufarms.com/

Are your videos about a certain topic ? if there’s a PeerTube instance for that topic it would be easier to get into said instance or find a couple of people that come together to fund and/or maintain a new instance.

No, it is spread out some, but decent hosting is rare. And I am realizing that people seem to think that I alone have 1.4 TB of videos there. That’s their total of all videos.

I don’t have the funds or infrastructure to do so. I’m also not willing/capable to expose my PC to the internet.

You’d expose your server, not your PC. Usually. If you don’t have funds, you might consider online hosting like digital ocean which isn’t expensive for your needs, probably.

In my case, my server would have to be my PC because that’s all I have. I’d need to use a VPS (like Digital Ocean that you mentioned). I’m hoping to find an instance that allows larger uploads.

ETA: I could go full send and use my Android tablet as a server. It would technically work, but every single video would be 1 FPS

I doubt that you can run a PeerTube instance on a tablet, though an interesting, even low power, idea. A VPS on Digital Ocean - there is one for $24/month that has enough memory and everything with included 4TB transfer. 4TB might be too little for your case, though? At the end of the day you could even self host on a RaspberryPI or such.

Again, I don’t have money to throw at this. Like at all. I might be able to donate $1 a month to an instance I use, but self-hosting is not a realistic option for me whatsoever. That is why I asked for instance suggestions.

I think the biggest issue your going to have is the 1.4 TB of videos. Thats a significant amount for any one instance for free. If it was less than 100GB then I would suggest something like peertube.wtf . Unless you were willing to donate, im not sure theres a good option for free.

For example my entire instance of 3 users uses about 100GB of just small videos though a 20 year period. Family stuff and mirrors of videos/channels/instances we find interesting.

If I was looking at self hosting , I would probably rig up a raspberry pi/mini pc (under 100$) + Yunohost (peertube is stupid easy to install with it) + 5 TB SSD/USB-C. But that would require funds and a bit of knowledge. I can understand if that is a bit out of scope with what you are trying to do.

GL! Let us know if you find a good instance!
