I would hope so, because the last was so terribly written.
Edit: It seems I’ve struck a nerve with some people. Here are the reasons why I thought it was bad:
The show couldn’t decide how far they would lean into the supernatural element. If you will eventually reveal there was a logical explanation for how things transpired, don’t cherry pick what stuff can be explained.
The two main characters hardly did any “detecting”/detective work. While they’re fucking around about everything else but the case, the deputy(?) was the only one actually trying to figure out what happened. Yes, previous seasons’ main characters all had their own personal arcs, but at least they actually worked on the case.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the setting and initial mystery. Ep 1 was well done. But as the season went on, I found myself asking why nothing is happening, and then they suddenly conclude. The also wasted a Jodi Foster performance.
I LOVED the 4th one, as much as I loved the first. The environment and setting and culture was such a part of the story at first, then a distraction at the end, like a stage magician and misdirection.
Yes, there are a few themes way-overplayed in this season, but for the most part it was a solid production. Kali Reis was tremendous.
I definitely didn’t enjoy it anywhere near as much as the first, but I agree that the setting was amazing. Particularly for the supernatural horror angle they went with. A lot of people also hate the second season, but I enjoyed the different angle in that one too. With these anthology shows you really need to learn to appreciate each season on its own merits, otherwise you inevitably end up comparing everything to “the best season” (whatever that was) and struggle to enjoy anything else.
