Friendly reminder, boycotting Disney isn’t just a few streaming services. Everything from Spiderman Underoos to the Lego Millenium Falcon should be avoided like the plague. No Aladin on Broadway, or Theme Parks.

When their partners start to complain and their residuals take a hit they’ll hear you a lot more clearly than just a drop in subscriptions.

If for some reason you can’t cut them off, try to cut back. Disney made 91 billion in 2024, if everyone cuts back by 10% you can carve nearly 10 billion dollars out of their revenue stream.

I’m kinda annoyed. My sub expired a bit before this and I didn’t renew. I was looking at whether to do so this month, but now I don’t get to tell them why they aren’t getting any more of my money

I kind of feel bad for Americans who were/are very invested in American culture. A lot of people survive on consumerism, so now they have to decide if they want to change their habits (choose ethics and morality) or continue doing their thing (because they’re in denial/need a distraction). It’s not looking good…

There’s zero chance this turns Americans away from consumerism. Hell, even in threads calling for boycotts most people are saying they’re going to still consume Disney products, they just won’t pay for it.

I consume like a motherfucker but I still cancelled Disney Plus and Hulu literally just now. Dropped my MAX/Hulu/Disney bundle and picked MAX back up because from what I understand they had nothing to do with this.

History channel?! Where the hell do you expect me to watch pawn stars and American pickers knowing ripping people off like the assholes they are. If that ain’t some real American history.

Tongue-in-cheek question, serious answer: Stop watching entirely, deny the company your attention, and erode its ability to control our culture. Use the time to learn DIY skills, and meet people IRL.

Probably preaching to the choir here on the Fediverse, but…

It’s hard to remove Disney from every aspect of your life even when not consuming media. For example, I play Magic the Gathering, and the producer of the game is Wizards of the Coast, owned by Hasbro. Wizards of the Coast has secured licensing deals with properties of many media franchises including Marvel. Now, I personally try not to purchase licensed cards from those sets. but when cards are released quarterly and the supply chain to small game stores is choked out to only give them the newest stuff and the oldest stuff no longer in print but still in supply, your choices become, buy the latest licensed boosters and boxes or buy the old stuff you probably already have enough of.

My shop hasn’t had Tarkir: Dragonstorm (a set that released in Q2 of this year) since the Final Fantasy set launched several months ago. And since then, Edge of Eternities (an nonlicecensed set) has released and even that set is hard to get hands on. So my options right now are, Final Fantasy cards, cards from a year or more ago, or prepurchasing Spiderman cards… Even my hobbies are being canabalized by the megacorps.

It’s exhausting, and I want to just enjoy my card game. I hate that a huge part of my enjoyment of this hobby has been sniffed out (cracking packs with friends) has been turned into something that feeds all the monsters at once. And since it became a finance hobby for people who don’t care about the game at all, just what they can sell the product for aftermarket, this thing I love has become harder and harder to enjoy.

All that said, please nobody tell Disney about Disk Golf…

Increase your upload ratio on any Disney properties you consume through BitTorrent, and no not positively discuss any of their properties online.

Rob them of revenue and organic marketing.

Even without a usenet indexer, public bittorent gets you pretty far.

Also funny how some of the nicest container stacks I’ve been seeing are fully decked out pirate ships with upwards of 20 containers handling various things. Some dude even published his insane 10k USD 320Tb plex server build on pcpartpicker with consumer priced server grade tech like 28TB HDDs and ECC RAM.

Way ahead of you. Disney have been unworthy scumbags in my eyes ever since I read ‘Free Culture’ by Lawrence Lessig many years ago.

Yay, Disney hate is finally mainstream! I’m basically inline with popular opinion by virtue of maintaining my firmly held beliefs I developed decades ago and held even when it was inconvenient and unpopular!!! It’s my time to shine for the short period of time this transient fad plays out!

Kidding and current events aside, Disney media has given me the creeps since I was a kid. The popular cartoon movies just felt like propaganda. I’m not saying everything Disney hits that note, but so, so much of it does.

Then I started meeting Disney adults and, while I understand that Disney has no control over how these people act and choose to represent them, all I can say is OH MY GOD. Crazy cat lady, bizarre couple who live in Christmas themed home decor and wardrobe year round, homeless person who’s still got money for meth and thinks he’s Jesus vibes all wrapped up into one with sprinkles on top.

Then they took over local news stations and started presenting “Disney” as news – entire segments dedicated to Disney intellectual properties disguised as “breaking news” kind of bullshit.

And finally they wrapped their slimy tendrils around the neck of super heroes and Star Wars and squeezed until blood poured out every pore while the corpse dried out and rotted.

So, thank you, I’ve had enough, and at least now maybe a few more people will see what kind of monster they’ve been supporting all along and decide to sever the ties.

It’s a bit funny and sad that the most innovation I’ve seen from Indiana Jones and Star Wars has been from video games - a cinematic medium they contract with, but don’t have as much twisted control over.

When Cal picks up a “crossguard” in Jedi: Survivor it was at first a moment of sequel cringe, but then they had the idea of having him wield it like a two-handed bastard sword where it has more weight, and it gives it such a cool identity.
