I’ve talked with them. They think it’s true. The internet twats who are smart enough to know it’s basically lies but just enjoy the fact that they can play around and get people frustrated by arguing with them are the absolute upper echelon of educatedness. People who play around on the wider internet and are exposed to lots of conflicting points of view is the environment for you and me, but it is not where most of the January 6th people existed, intellectually.

Milton Sanford Mayer interviewed a bunch of people in Germany after the war, and except for one professor, none of them had any idea about the camps or much idea of anything the Nazis were up to. They just remembered that they liked Hitler because the country was unified and the economy was better, but then the allies started bombing them, and it was dangerous and their cities got ruined, and they didn’t like that. Mostly the mindset was “what the fuck how could they be so mean to us, we didn’t do anything.” I mean, what newspaper would they even read to find out anything different? We’re spoiled for choice in the modern world in terms of knowing more or less what’s going on, but that shit’s not automatic.
