I was one of the people who deleted their reddit account when 3rd party apps were being pressured out.

I am just wondering how the official app is now. I visit a page that has no lemmy alternative every now and then.

I have no plans to post, upvote or downvote. I just want an easy way to see a couple of pages sometimes. Currently doing this in a mobile browser, requiring I not wipe history. Is there a better way to do this?

If you only want to look an not interact, I’m using Stealth. No account needed and you can still follow your preferred subreddits. You can’t post or comment, of course. Also no upvoting, but you can mark posts for your own later use. Also, you can have multiple sets of subreddits.

The official app is still shit, the mods are mostly absolute zealots, and the Admin uses so many AI tracking tools that if you get banned from a sub for some minor issue, you can soon find yourself get banned from the site forever. Which is why i’m here :-)

I was on it for about 13 years, got banned from AskUK for using ChatGPT as a spell checker, then got permanently banned from reddit for using a throwaway account, which was flagged as ban evasion.

So the official app is worse than ever. Moderation is worse. More censorship too? I guess I’d just memorize the few pages, and stay on a mobile browser.

the userbase has become degenerate and the site is now unusable due to lack of moderation

the better way is to stay far, far away

Your account will be severely restricted for several weeks, that is if you aren’t instantly shadowbanned, and when you are able to post a good percentage of the accounts you’ll be talking to will be bots.

The official app is dogshit. Riddled with bugs and oversaturated with ads. You can turn off certain ad settings but they weasel around them to keep them on (such as home feed recommendations and targeted advertising).

If you really really want to browse reddit though, I’d recommend using one of the remaining third party apps such as Infinity. Building an API key is a little involved but pretty easy; I was able to do it and I barely know what an API even is. And you won’t see ads or any of their distracting animated awards or such nonsense.

Also, with the way reddit is now, be prepared for a LOT of censorship. It’s gotten really bad over there.

I will try to research this. I just wanted something simple. That’s why I thought of asking here. Thanks for the suggestion.

old.reddit and browser bookmarks? There’s nothing I check frequently, but when digging on something and reddit comes up as a source, this is what I do.

The official app is still shit.

I still use Reddit for some niche subs. I would advise on using something like continuum to browse anonymously.

Otherwise, create an account and use it to save some posts to view later. Creating an account requires an API key now so search online on how to do that.
