Serious question though, why not just play a different game? I’m not criticising your choice here, I’m just curious. There’s nothing very unique about wingspan, you could probably find another game that does what you want without the house rules.
Do you know of one? I don’t know how to shop for a game based on so many specific mechanics. The rules changes have emerged organically over several years of playing and have been trial and error. Also I just really love birds.
Loving the theme is a very good reason to play a game :) As long as you enjoy it, don’t feel pressured to change!
Based on your changes, it seems you’re looking for extra complexity and length. I don’t know what other games you like, but I’d suggest Terraforming Mars as having similar gameplay with some of the changes you’ve house ruled. It’s also got a bunch of expansions so you could adjust as you see fit.

I’ve seen wingspan recommended as a lighter/shorter game for fans of Ark Nova so maybe check that out which is also a wildlife theme
